Syrian activists languish in government jails
Tens of thousands of political prisoners are being held without charge or on confessions obtained through torture.
These are the people Putin and Trump and Iran and now the Trumpets in the GOP want to defeat -- people doing what we consider a fundamental right in the US. So much for democracy and human rights.
For the crime of providing food to displaced Aleppans, her friends say, activist Zilal Salhani became one among tens of thousands of political prisoners left to an uncertain fate in Syria's jails.
Arrested at 19 by regime forces in Aleppo in July 2012, Salhani has now spent her university years in a series of shadowy government detention centres. She was convicted of supporting "terrorists", but according to friend Mohammad Shbeeb, Salhani was always peaceful.
Before her detention, the Free Syrian Army had recently taken certain areas in and around Aleppo, prompting retaliatory government air strikes. Salhani, an engineering student who had been an active participant in civil demonstrations against the government of President Bashar al-Assad, took food to those displaced by the heavy fighting and helped them to find shelter.
"Civilian activists who took to the street at the beginning of the revolution were considered by the regime as very dangerous people, because they were against using weapons and tried to keep the resistance peaceful despite the regime trying to militarise it," said Kareem Hourani, a member of the Detainees Voice activist group.

What would you do if an authoritarian government came to power? Apparently, cheer it on.

What do you think the US response should be?

Probably NOT teaming up with the Russians and Iran to support the Syrian regime committing the atrocities.
Instead of cheering them on.
Real people. Real problems.

So, your only response would be to not team up with Russia and Iran to support Assad?

I didn't even realize we were doing that.

Your question was "should," i.e., speculation.

You don't like the guidelines, don't set them where you don't want then.

Did you cry your eyes out for Saddams victims

The scale and severity of his human rights violations make this look like a Catholic charity

That doesn't seem to be helping, though, now does it?

It's a start. The point is, licking Putin's ass reverses decades of resisting Russian, Iranian, and the ruling Syrian regime in the Middle East.

Why, other than Russian interference smiled on the GOP joke of a candidate instead of the Democrats' joke of a candidate?

Despite the bizarre dysfunction in the US, real problems need real solutions in the real world.

I'm sorry I can't solve them for you -- I have my own work. Diplomacy is not what I do.

cloudboy -> RE: Syrian activists languish in government jails (1/2/2017 10:12:28 AM)

Hillary Clinton was not a joke of a candidate. She'd have made fine President. I'm tired of seeing this false equivalency -- usually promulgated by white males.

Musicmystery -> RE: Syrian activists languish in government jails (1/2/2017 11:05:16 AM)

What the fuck are you on about?

1) Yes, she's qualified.
2) She's a war hawk and a friend of Big Wall St.
3) I'm extremely concerned with how she ran her last two campaigns.

Now, none of that is "equivalency" beyond I didn't want either one to be president. In fact, I think the two-party system has become irrevocably diseased. I not only voted third party -- and for a woman, so fuck you about the white male crap -- I encouraged others to do the same, even though many of those were for Johnson, a man I don't agree with, but at least who would have started undercutting the two-party stranglehold.

The DNC's joke was their insistence on a coronation instead of a primary, and it didn't have to go that way. If they had skipped the manipulative bullshit, they might have reached out to the entire party and independents. Instead, they openly decided "fuck 'em, we don't need 'em." That's the joke. Are you laughing yet?

And that's why Trump won. In many areas, he was de facto unopposed. A lot of people voted but left president blank. Michigan, for example, won by 10,000 votes, had 90,000 blank votes for president.

Now are we laughing?

It was the saddest campaign in my lifetime. And it just didn't have to go that way. The DNC earned this loss. Unfortunately, the GOP didn't earn the win. So here we are. Consequences.

If you don't think this is one big fucked-up joke, then you aren't watching what's going on. Wait 'til the real shit happens after Jan. 20.

Oh, and meanwhile, she'd be bombing the crap out of Syria. Like its not already bombed to crap.

A step closer to Bush than Obama. More ME war. More provocation. More trying to look tough by playing with tanks and planes.

Obama overthrows ME governments in favor of ISIS, leaves a perfect vacuum for ISIS

Pushed the radical Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, had a heavy hand in killing Qaddafi, now trying to eliminate Assad on behalf of ISIS

Obama and Biden both crowed about how great Iraq was doing after they took office. Took credit for the situation there, then promptly abandoned Iraq to ISIS. Hillary would have been more of the same

Except I am sure she would have personally profited more. That was always her bottom line

Musicmystery -> RE: Syrian activists languish in government jails (1/2/2017 12:19:07 PM)

Like when he invaded Afghanistan and Iraq?

Oh, wait, who was that?

Fuck off, ridiculous partisan fanatic.

Musicmystery -> RE: Syrian activists languish in government jails (1/2/2017 12:34:21 PM)

I didn't vote for Hilary either.

So definitely not "we."

How's your war going, btw?

Ah. So the US got there by...how again? Muslims dragging them over there?

FFS.

"Pre-emptive invasion" ring a bell?

You cry crocodile tears over the plight of Syrians, purely for political grandstanding while the far worse situation Iraqis suffered under, Saddam and that Kuwaitis suffered under Saddam, far worse by mind-boggling proportions - you mock. Again, purely because you are an empty headed political ideologue with no compass

Musicmystery -> RE: Syrian activists languish in government jails (1/2/2017 12:52:21 PM)

Ah. Now you're in love with Muslim victims.

I thought they were godless ideologues?

Make up your mind. Instead of making up my positions.

Any victim is one too many, fool. Godless ideologues are your words, you are too stupid to argue with my actual words and positions so you have to try to defeat a scare crow of your own making instead

cloudboy -> RE: Syrian activists languish in government jails (1/2/2017 5:29:04 PM)

If you didn't vote for Hillary, you voted for Trump. Good job.

On that level, I'd be interested to know why the Trumptooners feel that their aversion to Jihadists/moslems doesn't apply to Assad? This is a man who carried on his father's work of supporting and funding everything fundamentalist wanker with a beef against Israel in the middle east, and then started whining when a bunch of them decided that they maybe had ideological issues with him as well, after all.

Yes, and I want to take this opportunity to thank every one here who voted third party, too. I thank you, and President Trump thanks you.

THIRD PARTIES RULE!!!
