I've been trying - but failing - for as long as I can remember, on this forum, to propose the idea that there are forces other than that of religion that influence the way societies grow, and what they are today. Forget it. Most especially re Muslims: you want to know what makes any given Muslim tick, you only have to know what's in the Koran. Whether he was brought up, say, in the UK and never saw violence, ended up running his dad's sweet shop and made a modest but comfortable living - or whether he saw his wife, children and all his friends killed in Syria and had to flee the country with nothing to a foreign country where he couldn't even speak the language and had no home ... doesn't matter. He's Muslim, the Koran says what he is, thinks and will do, and that is that.
