DaddySatyr -> Legalized Pot: Still A Good Idea? (1/2/2017 10:04:23 PM)

Some time ago, I pondered whether or not there were "hidden dangers" to legalized dope.

Well, I detest people who say "I told ya so", but:

Huff-Poo article:

quote:

Dr. David Steinbruner, an emergency room physician at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, believes it’s likely triggered with a significant amount of marijuana. “The corollary would be alcohol. So small amounts may be fine for people, but over a long time it will cause all kinds of problems,” Steinbruner told KDRO-TV.

The condition (CHS) seems to not be permenant necessarily, but for people who become addicted (like they do to alcohol), it could wind up being very serious to deadly.

Is legalized alcohol a good idea?

DaddySatyr -> RE: Legalized Pot: Still A Good Idea? (1/2/2017 10:49:02 PM)

No, it isn't, as I've said for some time (about a decade) on this website, before.

Care to comment on the article or are you just flinging shit like a circus monkey?

Oh sorry, I forgot to dumb it down for you.

PROHIBITION DOESN'T WORK.

(prohibition is a big word, so maybe I should tell you that it means 'making it so you can't have something'.)

Anything 'sickness' that can be relieved with a hot shower is not something i would worry about.

heavyblinker -> RE: Legalized Pot: Still A Good Idea? (1/2/2017 11:20:22 PM)

Yes, but Rat Ass-face also supports killing people who smoke pot so I guess that pretending to care about the health effects of weed is a step in the right direction.

He's just being a good "christian" or something.

I'm guessing you didn't read the article.

The abdominal pain and vomiting can be abated by a hot shower or bath. The kidney failure - according to the article - only by not smoking the demon weed so much.

With all the legal poisons out there who cares ? More people die from legal drugs than illegal.

How wide spread is this? So, there is an abuse of alcohol, there is an abuse of marijuana. Take a warm bath, its fixed.

According to the study.......
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4469074/
Cyclic Vomiting Presentations Following Marijuana Liberalization in Colorado

Methods

This was a cross-sectional study of cyclic vomiting visits to the emergency department (ED) before and after marijuana liberalization. ED visits with International Classification of Diseases, ninth revision, coding for cyclic vomiting or that met diagnostic criteria for cyclic vomiting by the Rome III criteria were included.

Results

The authors reviewed 2,574 visits and identified 36 patients diagnosed with cyclic vomiting over 128 visits. The prevalence of cyclic vomiting visits increased from 41 per 113,262 ED visits to 87 per 125,095 ED visits after marijuana liberalization, corresponding to a prevalence ratio of 1.92 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.33 to 2.79). Patients with cyclic vomiting in the postliberalization period were more likely to have marijuana use documented than patients in the preliberalization period (odds ratio = 3.59, 95% CI = 1.44 to 9.00).

Conclusions

The prevalence of cyclic vomiting presentations nearly doubled after the liberalization of medical marijuana. Patients presenting with cyclic vomiting in the postliberalization period were more likely to endorse marijuana use, although it is unclear whether this was secondary to increased marijuana use, more accurate marijuana reporting, or both.

I believe you can find the methodology from the paper more so than any "news" article

FR

People are probably getting the munchies and eating too much.

And THC is fat soluble so there is much doubt that it even can affect the kidneys much. It just passes through. Kidneys process water soluble things.

MrRodgers -> RE: Legalized Pot: Still A Good Idea? (1/3/2017 1:31:22 PM)

Well I for one am very happy to have such UN-limited govt. so as to prosecute every fucking dope head we bust so we can jail them at $40,000 a year.

Better we just let the lawyers feast on the drunk drivers who are as likely to cause damage maybe even kill somebody from being drunk while behind the wheel of a car.

Funny you should mention munchies. It was in less then 2 years after first smoking pot (hash) that it began to...kill my appetite.

MasterG2kTR -> RE: Legalized Pot: Still A Good Idea? (1/3/2017 5:48:33 PM)

I'm calling bullshit on this one....

Why is this "suddenly" popping up? If this is a real problem we would have seen this in hospitals and ER's steadily over the last 100 years and more. Marijuana has certainly been around that long and more in this country.....legal or not....and there have been plenty of people who consumed it daily over long periods. Should we not have seen a steady percentage of them with the same problems? Or has there been a sudden massive explosion of consumers in the states that are now legalized? It doesn't add up!

....and for what it's worth.....my experience was that pot always gave me the munchies.....not the pukies

I think the logic here is that because of legalization and increased potency, people are going overboard with their consumption to the point where it's causing new health problems. Of course there are no specifics about how much is being consumed, so it's sort of up to you to decide how much is 'a significant amount'.

Greta75 -> RE: Legalized Pot: Still A Good Idea? (1/3/2017 6:27:27 PM)

It's kinda funny how the whole world can agree that cigarettes are bad for you, BUT that's legal. There is ZERO health benefit of cigarettes.

At least with alcohol, one portion of alcohol a day keeps Heart Diseases away. There are actually health benefits, and wine actually has anti-oxidants that are good for you. I mean the problem is people drink too much. But even if you drink too much pure H20, you can die of water poisoning too. So if there is a health benefit to moderate intake, I say, keep it around.

With cigarettes though, ZERO health benefits and harms people who don't even smoke.

And Marijuana where, there are controversial disagreements on whether it is good or bad for you, cannot be made legal, I mean, Marijuana is even medication, so there is a slight benefit.

While I am anti-drug, I can't stand the hypocrisy. In my own country, I am supporting the ban of cigarettes as I argue it is worst than Marijuana. So if Marijuana is banned, so should cigarettes be banned!

Weed is actually legal in several places.

I know it is. It's completely legal in Amsterdam. My point is, I don't understand why people aren't attacking cigarettes that has zero health benefits and been killing people rather than go after marijuana.
To me that is the greater evil.

kdsub -> RE: Legalized Pot: Still A Good Idea? (1/3/2017 8:40:50 PM)

How many ways must we make available to the young and weak the ability to poison their minds, bodies, and spirits? Are not the legal drugs available now enough? Damn...grow up.

Because the tobacco industry is stronger than the weed industry... for now.
