Well, all the way back to Slick Willy, we heard things like "Patriotism is a mental illness" (not a direct quote, but the words are the correct ones).

We've seen leftists equate patriotism with jingoism, racism, name the "ism". It's been happening, all around, for years.

Nationalism, Whitism, Naziism, KKKism, genocidalism, concentration campism, racism, redneckism...

You will only be a 'real patriot' once again (how many times did he say that yesterday ?) as long as you do what the right wants to feed the corp. elites, the MIC and go to war in the middle east. Already here as well as in the past if you didn't want war, or if you are in opposition and if you don't agree...you are a traitor.

I don't think our newly minted president used the word "patriot" (or any of its forms) all that often, but be that as it may, the forty-year-long attack of the left, trying to make people believe that "patriotism" is a step on the road to nazism is one of the many reasons the Dumbocrats lost so many votes.

You see, there's people in this country that don't believe patriotism to be a bad word. On top of that, they don't see it as being a bad mind set.

Far too many of our citizens have fought under that flag for them to believe that serving one's country is a bad thing. Service to one's country would not be possible without some measure of patriotism. The Sith-ish demonization of that very word and ideal is going to cause the left to continue to lose ground (so, naturally, I support their efforts).

Michael

here are the corresponding sections from the "basis differences between left and right" I recently posted:

Ideal Primary Identity of an American

Left: world citizen
Right: American citizen

View of America

Left: profoundly morally flawed; inferior to any number of European countries
Right: greatest force for good among nations in world history

American Exceptionalism

Left: chauvinistic doctrine
Right: historical reality

America's Founding Fathers

Left: rich white male slave owners
Right: great men who founded the greatest society

National Borders

Left: a relic of the past
Right: indispensable for national survival

if those qualities on the right serve to make up, at least partially, a definition of patriotism, then its easy to see how whatever the left views as patriotism (if they embrace the concept at all), is not the same.

bounty44 -> RE: Plato explains the rise of Trump (1/21/2017 3:00:17 PM)

oh, and one the best things trump said in his inaugural speech was (im paraphrasing here)---"when you love your country, there's no room left for prejudice."

Musicmystery -> RE: Plato explains the rise of Trump (1/21/2017 3:15:00 PM)

So will your prejudice be leaving you soon?

Wasn't slick willie a draft dodger also?

No mikey we have seen you lie and say they have.

They berate the idea of just about any conservative American value in an effort to smash the old and bring in the new.

There are punkassmotherfuckers who wold like to bring back slavery.

As a personal note: your very tone, dismissing my idea and experience is also an indication of the condescending attitude of the left. The other day, you started a post with: "What is wrong with you", directed at me because you didn't agree with what I posted.

No matter how many times we point out the stupid shit that come out of your mouth you persist in believing that we should encourage you in your belief that 2+2=something other than 4.

The fact that you and I live in different Americas is a great comfort to me. I certainly don't want to live in yours and, as I've been saying for about thirty years: either a split/secession or a civil war is brewing in this country.

May God favor the bold.

The chairborn ranger has spoken.

Seriously - how can you see that? (Visibly) Do you honestly believe that Trump will be an effective President? I do. What is your vision of the USA in, say, two years time? Better. More financially stable. Where we SHOULD have been if the American populace would have had the IQ to vote in Perot.

Be careful how you answer. I shall do a screen print of your response, and look at it two years from now. [;)]

Bring it.....the guy has created 8,500 jobs since he was elected (BEFORE he got the keys to the front door)....granted....Obama was handed a shitstorm but...it took him 53 months to be at zero.

Trump added jobs before he even assessed his victory.

All these naysayers are gonna have a bit of crow for dinner....in time.

Common Nookie, neither point is true -- far more jobs created than ini 2008, and Trump has claimed credit, not created jobs.

And we both no that no president deserves the credit/blame he gets in this area--it's more complicated.

Unless, like Reagan, you just borrow/throw money at new Star Wars programs to artificially pretend there's an economy.

Well....actually...he created negative jobs in 2008....2009 and 2010 (might be wrong about 2010)....but to be fair....he was handed a shitstorm so....in net....he started creating jobs in 2010...late....however you crunch the numbers....it was 2010 before we hit zero. And....a shitstorm....he was indeed handed.

As to Trump claiming credit...let's be real...the guy's a blowhard....he'll claim credit where none is due.....every time....so....

With that said....in 2008....Obama said this: "My programs will create OR save ( think he said 8 million jobs)"

How the fuck do you argue that????

If we lost 12 million jobs he could say...."well....could have been 20 million lost".

No different than when Clinton started using 10 year measures in his economics (never before...it was always....current term).

So...now we have a new direction wherein which.....corporations are stepping up (MOST were planned for 2 years ago) and saying...."we want to be a player in this gig"

Every corporation is.....agreed....putting on their knee pads and saying "well...we're gonna add thus and so...."

Few are blind (I know you're not) to the hyperbole.

Here's what I say.....

There is a WORLD of difference between what Obama said (and did) and what Trump is saying (and doing).

I say this; Let's give the guy a shot.

(That's it).

We owed UNDER 1 trillion when he stepped in....and 3.8 trillion when he left.

Then...by 1986...we were paying $2.25 anyway.

As has been said previously....we get the government we're willing to pay for.

First of all, the guy is the definition of hyperbole.....second....everything he proposes...is in his book.

It's not rocket science to ask for 15 when the other side is hoping for 3....and you end at 5.....or 7.

It's what I've done for 40 years and....

(It works).

(And I've made fuckloads of money.....doing exactly that).

There are ONLY two kinds of businesses:

1) Those that say "Oh....you can only afford 5.....allow me to offer my wares at 5"

and....

2) Those that are in the fortunate position to say....."No....I think 10 sounds more reasonable".

Guess how you get to 10?

(Stop asking for 5).

This happens in marketplaces in third world countries a lot.
Not so sure it will work in global politics.

Alsothe .50 tax was all he had, he only pulled 10% of the vote.

That was part of it but....there was more.

How many times have we all heard....or said...."well....If I ran the...."....and then...we discover that we....actually (privately) were worse. (The numbers for debt on a private level are FAR worse than on the public side). Guess what....the numbers prove; if YOU ran.....(the govt.) it'd be FAR worse.

So...we're asking our govt. to be more careful with our dollars than we are (or ever have been)....privately.

And now....like sheep....we've asked for someone to take away our pain by doing EXACTLY what we have refused to do personally (the world over...not just in the U.S.)....and....we may have just found that person which....is why I say....

Get the fuck off this guy's back and let him try.

Or fail.

(Because....it's what we asked him to do).

(It's what we've been asking politicians to do for 90 years.....why don't we just give the doooood a shot at doing......exactly that?).
