ORIGINAL: bounty44 I think my question implies answering beyond a simple yes or no. and im less concerned about trump, who is temporary, and more concerned with questions that are more universal and timeless, like this one. I don't see how one can answer fully without addressing the question of, what's the purpose of comedy? and if something or someone is "off limits" why is it so? First, it's a simple yes or no (which you got). Then, you don't see how one can answer fully without addressing the purpose of comedy. Which is it? And which definition of comedy? Comedy is the art form that examines the universal shortcomings of humanity, and as such, may or may not be funny (it can be bitter, or just insightful). Or, in the modern casual sense, meaning simply funny. my original question was meant to illicit more than a yes or no, though I appear to have failed in its design. nevertheless, when you say "examines universal shortcomings of humanity..." is the purpose (or at least one of the purposes) of comedy, then how do we get from there, to "yes but X is off-limits to that purpose?" I don't think we do. Character comes from within. Outwardly, the 1st Amendment protects even assholes.
