Where werre the protestss and outrage and court cases over the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and made permanent in 1902? This concept of excluding countries is not new by any means. Even SCOTUS allowed the internment of persons of Japanese heritage to be confined in the 1940's. Not to say I agree with these but they are presidents that can be followed until SCOTUS says enough.

Not to mention, Ken, that it is ENTIRELY within the purview of ANY president of this country to invoke a travel ban into this country for any national security reasons.

The ONLY people with a RIGHT to enter this country were born here or nationalized to us.

Except that Presidents in the past signed various free passage and reciprocal treaties and agreements which basically state that unless a person can be proven to be an undesirable (i.e threat to public safety, carrying some disease etc) they cannot be unnecessarily detained in any manner that could be deemed inhumane.

Now if you need this spelled out, put it this way:

A 72 year old woman with a heart condition cannot be kept in an airport holding facility for three days on the possibility she may be a terrorist.

And anyone kept in said facilities over 12 hours has to have some just cause to be held.

Just cause, a two word term with a fucking big meaning.

And the fact the people detained are Muslim dont cut it in international law.

The simple truth is that the ban was not well thought out, and even the acting AG would not defend it, which got them fired, so now Trump to get an AG nominated and approved.

And of course, the dems in the senate have been threatened about using the filibuster to prevent such approvals, which is funny as hell since the republicans used the filibuster to prevent how many Obama nominees?

My Impression of the ~46 predominately Muslim nations on earth is that the death tally from those 7 nations, that were stated in the executive order, are zero on American soil. So his ~~logic~~ mess of a brain fails at stage 1. I liked how he cited Obama as having stated these were the seven identified as being a hot bed of terrorist wishing to emigrate to Americashire who were intent on wreaking carnage, before promptly sacking the Attorney General who he tweeted was an inherited Obama gooness.

Furthermore I am led to believe he has no property or business interests in those lands. Unlike say Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE – who are responsible for pretty much all deaths on American soil, over looking home grown terrorists and right wing nutters.

I find it curious also that 100 people have lost their lives in his 10 days in office via guns – the second amendment, and that more kids have blew their mums brains out (accidentally) than the death tally of 0. And that indeed 35 000 Americans will kill each other deliberately, by accident or suicide in any given year with guns.

His ban had nothing to do with the safety of America. And the kill all idolaters lot are pissing their pants in laughter – victory for them on this one as they seek to divide

I like how he consulted no-one of consequence in the security services, nor any legal minds. Let alone the Attorney general before creature crayoned this executive order up with his wee pussy grabbing claws.

That a person is a US citizen or green card holder coming into the US, i.e., coming home, is not a privilege...it is a right.

Any ban that is based on the very concept of any person observing any particular religion is defacto unconstitutional, it codifying the free exercise of same.

One of the things that tickles the emotional sadist in me is watching the left, who HATE Christians - and particularly Catholics - suddenly "find religion". Part of the protest, the other night was a "Catholic" mass, on the steps of the Supreme Court building.

D'ya think if a right-to-life group wanted to hold one of those, they'd be allowed to?

But, now, since they found a Liberal priest (not surprising, given the current "pope") who supports their stance on immigration, a "Catholic" mass is just the thing for the proper optics.

rights and privileges aside for a moment.

im not aware of anyone being deported in whats going on recently. they are being detained for whatever further scrutiny is deemed necessary. I just read that one of the Iraqi arrivals expressed dismay at being detained, but nevertheless came out of the airport glad to be in America and essentially saying we're the best place in the world.

im also not aware that the detainees are being treated inhumanely as someone above as suggested. presumably they are sheltered, fed, allowed freedom of movement though with some restrictions, and kept comfortable given the circumstances.

i understand most of the those detained have been released.

i found myself saddened and praying for the elderly woman from yemen with the heart condition and diabetes who came here to be with family. its unfortunate she was inconvenienced---but that's all it was, and also unfortunately, that is the nature of bureaucracy, they cannot deal with people quickly on an individual basis.

but that said, my goodness i feel proud as can be that we live in a country where people can come from all over the world to seek a better life to begin with. or that families already here can provide the same for their relatives.

and if you whining leftists cannot see that forest through the trees, you suck even more than i already think you do.

As for privileges -- to grant a VISA, then revoke it while you're in the air, based on nothing but religion/country, is at best flakey, even if technically legal.

More broadly, it certainly looks like religious persecution.
