Most notably, the myth that the founders based the US on Christianity (they were actually deists), and of course, the 2000 Conventions "A vote for George W. Bush is a vote for God!"

tamaka, im familiar with culturally conservative Christian denominations and their practices. they have some similarity to islam in regards to what you have mentioned, but that is pretty much where it stops. im not aware that the conservative Baptist folks are interested in a theocratic rule for America. and in that regard, and as you've alluded to, people join the church willingly and are free to leave the church when they choose.

I suggest most Christian sects would interpret what you just said as describing mankind's relationship with god in this way: it implies recognition of god, looking to god, prayer, godly behavior, allowing god in the public square, honoring god, etc, but as free people; not the establishment of a theocracy. if im wrong in that regard, my fallback would be that those sects who want something more than that presently, are in the very small minority.
