OTTAWA — As desperate asylum seekers continue to flee the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown by crossing into Canada, concern is growing here over whether the country will be able to cope if the number of migrants keeps growing.
Stories of migrants hauling children and suitcases across frozen fields and snow-covered ditches into Canada have become headline news. The asylum seekers, who are fleeing President Trump’s travel and refugee bans as well as stepped-up arrests of undocumented immigrants, have received warm welcomes. But opposition politicians are criticizing the government of Justin Trudeau for being too harsh or too lax in its approach.

I think it's great. Overwhelm Canada, they want to be punished.

There is a rumor (unconfirmed) that Canada is considering a wall as many of those fleeing are doing so illegally.

There is another unconfirmed rumor (that I'm just starting) that they are going to make the US to pay for it.

I heard a rumor but I don't have proof that it is true so unlike many I mentioned it but made it clear that this should not be taken as gospel you on the other hand assured us that there was no need to even think about it. I was fishing for someone with more information, you are just being sarcastic.

They are refugees, and while some/many may be going thru the asylum refugee process and fear automatic deportation by Trump at some point, some may even have been vetted and gotten green cards but they fear being put in internment camps like the US did to Japanese & Japanese-Americans.. They have gotten the message that immigrants arent welcome in the US & refugees even less so..

They are just being smart about it and leaving rather than stay and face the risk & uncertainty & the increasing hate.. They will have a much better life in Canada anyway..

This is very much like the (as many as 30,000) slaves that traveled on the Underground Railroad to Canada to real freedom.. and like the (30,000 to 40,000) American draft dodgers who refused to fight in Vietnam and came to Canada instead.. And btw, Canada wasnt punished those times and wont be this time either..

Well then Canada is the answer! A win/win for everybody. I think Trump & Trudeau should decide on a 'Move to Canada' week ... say in March 2017 ... and everyone who wants to live there can up & move ... no strings. Wonderful!

Migrants Choose Arrest In Canada Over Staying In The U.S.

People who work with immigrants in Canada say these border-jumpers would rather be arrested in Canada than live in fear of how U.S. officials might handle their cases.

"There's quite an increase in people walking through illegally," says Cpl. Camille Habel, spokeswoman with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

She says that after the Mounties arrest those who cross the border illegally, the police can only detain them for up to 24 hours before either releasing them or presenting them in front of a judge.

HERE

I wonder if they know how fucking cold it is up there ? Twice I was going to go up to visit my 'online' slave, it was -2 and -17. I told her sorry babe...I am not coming up until mid summer at the earliest.

I had no idea that wearing a uniform made a person so wise and knowledgeable, Brent. Does that apply to all uniforms, including that of a parking attendant or the Waffen SS?

I think crossing the US Mexico border is much harder and riskier,... how many die in the miles of desert or are murdered by the coyotes or die in locked truck boxes just to get to the US? Many of these refugees are taking taxis to the border, then they walk across and to the nearest town/phone booth.. they just need to be dressed properly & know where they are going.. And, if ya hadn't noticed, the "climate" for refugees/immigrants is waaaayyyy fucking colder in the US..

Crossing the boarder illegally is a misdomeanor.
Hiring someone who has crossed the boarder illegally is as felony.

Regarding the bolded part, you can thank the Democrats and those with a liberal/progressive bent for that. Building a wall on the border between Mexico and the US doesn't have any impact on legal immigration. The wall is all about preventing/reducing illegal immigration. Everyone but the soundbite believers knows this stuff.

Maybe we should have ICE offer transportation to Canada to anyone illegally crossing the southern border. Pamphlet bomb the desert borders with instructions on how to take part of the program. You think Canadians would be okay with that?

PFH, I think the assumption was to be that he was IN the US military for those 8 years.

That is a pretty big assumption.

Having spent 8 years in the US military just might give someone a better idea about the defense of the US than someone who has not spent time in the US military.

Really...how would that work?
Was he one of the generals who developed strategy?
You are making assumptions with your alligator mouth that your canary ass cannot validate.

The President will backcharge Mexico. make them give up some more factories or whatever

Company x moves it's manufacturing back to amerika and has to pay amerikan wages to the work force so the price of the manufactured goods goes up and is payed for by amerikan citizens....You seem more than willing to pay your share of building the wall. Good on you mate.
