I have considered taking the class and applying for a CPL (Concealed Pistol License), but I came to the decision that I actually don't want to carry a deadly weapon around on me. I own my weapons for basically three reasons:

1. Target practic .
A) It's fun
B) I consider it my responsibility, as a gun owner to learn how to operate the gun safely and be able to hit what I aim at.

2. If the shit hits the fan (like an economic colapse or rioting nearby) I would rather have protection than wish I did.

3. In regards to #2, I may not have been hunting in a long time, I still like to know that in any long-term event (natural disaster etc) I have the means to go out and at least bring home dinner.

When I take these three reasons and weigh them against the responsibility of concealed carry and the risks; I decided that it wasn't something I wanted to do.

However, having the right to make those decisions, for myself, is important to me.

If the politacal, economic, religious and racial issues continue to escalate - as they seem to be - and it comes down to me feeling I NEED a gun to feel safe, I doubt seriously that a license to conceal carry is goinng to be of any use.

As for anyone being called a gun nut, well, take from them any wisdom you can find and leave the rest. My thinking runs along these lines: If a majority of people express a consistent sentiment, evaluate your position/POV and consider if there are ways to better express your POV or if there is some truth to what people are saying. If you can't periodically evaluate your views on things and consider alternative POV's; you might be a little too set in your ways.

Owning/carrying a firearm is a right, not a privilege, or a duty.
If it is subject to what others want to do it would be a privilege.
If you have to own/carry (by law) it is a duty.
It is your choice.

first, that is not the difference between priviledge and right. However it is a privilege, since it can be applied to a class and removed from a class.

Thanks for play the learn English language game.

A right mean you have a choice. A privilege means it is the governments choice. The Constitution says it is a right.

Oh sorry, not at all. All 'rights' in the constitutions extended citizenry are actually privileges. use a dictionary. the Constitution also says milita, but you ignore it and favor a heavily fantastical interpretation of it.

A right is inherent to every individual and precedes the Constitution, which only recognizes specific rights to be called out for special protection by the federal government. They are based in the traditional English legal recognition of the concept of Natural Law. The interpretation of militia is not fantastical in a historical context, only a contemporary cultural one. Additionally, the phrase referring to the militia has been repeatedly interpreted as secondary by the SCOTUS.

That said, all levels of government in the United States violate the rights of the citizenry constantly. It is easy to argue, in light of this, that rights are no more than governmental privileges. This is unjust, but it is reality.

That does not make those actions acceptable. It means we need to try to roll them back, and fight each new attempted breach all the harder.

The Constitution recognizes and protects rights, it does not grant them.

The 2nd recognizes and protects the rights of the individual, it does not grant privileges to militia members.

How so? When I spoke to the instructor, an ex-cop , about traveling with my guns he said to be careful, keep purchase receipts and registration with the guns and keep the guns and ammo locked up separately.

Is there new legislation or something in the works?

ETA I realize you are talking about carrying your guns, not just traveling with them, is there legislation in the works to make CPL's recognized nationally?

Yes, this thread was started because a national reciprocity bill is now before Congress and when passed his ccw will be good everywhere.
That and the stupid arguments of groups like Bloomberg's that this will legalize carry by criminals and by "dangerous" people but nobody can tell me which state issues permits to criminals or who those "dangerous" people are.

What's the difference? Those guns will be stolen from those ccw people who aren't responsible owners at home ether, and before the ink is dry on the insurance check the odds are it will be used in a crime. There's just going to be more places for guns to get stolen from.

All they have to do is find the vehicles with the gun stickers on them. simple. Then they'll just CCW to where to next crime will be carried out.

But it wont. It will not survive SCOTUS. Many nutsucker states give felons back their voting rights and those same nutsuckers scream voter fraud without giving us a list of who those fraudsters are. Of course they are nutsuckers. Easy enough. There are a great many gang members who have no criminal record. Go live in another state for 6 months, get a ccw and away we go. trivial and only one possibility.

there doesn't have to more irresponsible gun owners, at all......
the current level of irresponsible gun owners feeds the weapon black market quite well on its own already.

but to answer ur question, there will be more gun owners because too many of the current crop get their guns stolen and sold to the weapon black market

thereby creating and perpetuating the very problem they are trying to so-call protect themselves from but are too damn busy wrapping themselves up in the flag and the 2nd amendment to bother to see it.

or for that matter, ...care.

Wrong on all counts.
Unless you don't want reciprocity for DLs and MLs.

The highlighted part shows the problem in your thinking. The people who steal guns will not be affected by this law. They don't follow any law anyway.

oh, wrong on all counts. there is no reciprocity for lawyers licenses, nursing licenses, many truckers licenses, educators licenses, like we in Minnesota with very high educational standards arent gonna let a missippi college teacher teach kindergarten here without passing a proficiency test.

And we have ccw laws on the books and standards that have to be met that not all 50 states have.

Nope, we aint going to let many idiots run around with guns just cuz their cousin Bubba the JP wrote that its ok.

The Constitution recognizes and protects rights, it does not grant them.

If the constitution fails to protect one of those rights how would you go about exercising it?
How long did blacks have rights before the constitution decided to protect them?
How long did women have rights before the constitution decided to protect them?
How long did native amrikans have rights before the constitution decided to protect them?
Jesus you are phoquing stupid.
