No that was over him egging her on to try some of the gymnastic routines from The Greatest Show On Earth and her breaking her back in the attempt. It's a sad story, really. (Either that or she beat him half to death for shagging her sister. One of the two...)

True. I've just checked the iconic beach scene in 'From Here to Eternity': poor Burt had a rather meagre turnout on the upper balcony. God Victor Mature was an ugly, hoover-lipped sod. I never did get how he became a sex symbol. For me, he's the perfect illustration of how the aesthetics of human attractiveness change over time.
