Chinese billionaire Jack Ma says the US wasted trillions on warfare instead of investing in infrastructure

Ma was asked by CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin about the U.S. economy in relation to China, since President-elect Donald Trump has been talking about imposing new tariffs on Chinese imports.

Ma says blaming China for any economic issues in the U.S. is misguided. If America is looking to blame anyone, Ma said, it should blame itself.

"It's not that other countries steal jobs from you guys," Ma said. "It's your strategy. Distribute the money and things in a proper way."

He said the U.S. has wasted over $14 trillion in fighting wars over the past 30 years rather than investing in infrastructure at home.

To be sure, Ma is not the only critic of the costly U.S. policies of waging war against terrorism and other enemies outside the homeland. Still, Ma said this was the reason America's economic growth had weakened, not China's supposed theft of jobs.

In fact, Ma called outsourcing a "wonderful" and "perfect" strategy.

"The American multinational companies made millions and millions of dollars from globalization," Ma said. "The past 30 years, IBM, Cisco, Microsoft, they've made tens of millions — the profits they've made are much more than the four Chinese banks put together. ... But where did the money go?"

He said the U.S. is not distributing, or investing, its money properly, and that's why many people in the country feel wracked with economic anxiety. He said too much money flows to Wall Street and Silicon Valley. Instead, the country should be helping the Midwest, and Americans "not good in schooling," too.

"You're supposed to spend money on your own people," Ma said.

We don't spend money on our own people every time we buy something from China. Did he mention that?

Did you read the last sentence?

Yes. My point being, we're not spending money on our own people with the trade deficit we run with China.

Billions compared to trillions.

But yes, I get it. Whom shall we stop from buying Chinese?

Perhaps the Chinese.

A big part of the deficit is that those US multinational corps that outsource dont bring the money they make back into the US.. You (meaning US corporations) still have a lot of that money but its kept offshore cuz they dont want to pay 35% tax on it to bring it back.. they have trillions offshore, money made by selling all that stuff to y'all.. Trump said he was gonna cut that tax to encourage them to bring back that money but so far that is just talk, even if it does happen, the track record of US corps investing that money in US jobs isnt good, they would rather use that money to buy back stock.. (shrug)....

"Bring your sweet taxes, Bring It On Home To Me."

In any case, Jack Ma is welcome to elucidate for the audience how Chinese economics is working out so well for their own citizens by way of selling them out at loudly advertised cheapest rate and keeping minimum wage at historical lows around the world, and how Chinese building of artificial islands in Japanese waters for use of stationing military planes and firing of test missiles thereupon contributes to that end.

Let's hear it, Jacko.

Yes, but that's why US is the World Leader because they keep spending their money to help other countries other than their own to their own detriment. To remain a world power too.

It's pros and cons.

Ma's thinking is very Chinese! All of us Chinese would govern in a way where. We wouldn't give a shit about the rest of the world going down in hell. We would take care of our side first. Refugees aid, forget it!

who's he kiddin???

of course the USA spends billions on its own people every year!!

the gun lobby, the wealthy, corporations, the Big Oil subsidies, wall street, healthcare insurance companies only for them to shove that money back into their own off-shore accounts.
They count as our people don't they?

just wait until rump hands out "Version #3 reagan/bush tax cuts" that cash will also not trickle down to the middle class and the poor or create living wage jobs ether.....cuz we count less as people.

It's always nice to be lectured about maintaining a capable defense by the people who are racing at breakneck speed to achieve a military capable of world domination

And to see American "liberals" shedding snake tears while nodding in total agreement with them

Oh i find that article hilariously ironic.

Spend money on infrastructure he says?
What, like china which spent billions on constructing urban city sprawls... which no one lives in?

Look up 'Ghost Cities of China'.

Unlike the superior US bridges collapsing from neglect.

Making America Great Again, pre-transportation era.

Maybe the caterpillar thinks that America was last great before any Europeans arrived and the Indians were still running the country?
Pre-bridges, pre-roads, pre-industry.

What bridges have collapsed due to neglect in the US?

That was during the Obama years, after his trillion dollars' "stimulus" was wasted by his crony friends at Solyndra etc

(Remember? President Trump just barely took office)

Thankfully, President Trump really is addressing the infrastructure issue

Musicmystery -> RE: Chinese billionaire says US wastes trillions on war instead of infrastructure and its own people (4/13/2017 7:19:38 AM)

Really. What's he done?

Oh yeah . . . Nothing. It's coming. It's gonna be huge. A thing of beauty. But no plan...not one he can show anyone.

It's stunning how gullible people are in the US.

Meanwhile, the GOP consistently block infrastructure bills.

The twat is describing "Hope... And Change you can believe in"

Which ended in riots

President Trump just took office, and has already brought real change in many positive and significant ways

Nothing but silly taunts and straw men.

Pathetic and sad.
