US military drops 'mother of all bombs on IS' in Afghanistan

The US military says it has dropped a 21,600lb (9,800kg) bomb on a tunnel complex used by Islamic State militants in Afghanistan.

The GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB), known as "the mother of all bombs", is the largest non-nuclear bomb ever used by the US in a conflict.

The Pentagon said it was dropped from a US aircraft in Nangarhar province.
The news came hours after the Pentagon admitted an air strike in Syria mistakenly killed 18 rebels....hell lets drop more bombs jackals

I've been watching and waiting for more information on this. Even the footage to show the bomb was of a practice air strike.

But can someone please explain to me.

Does the mad orange cunt own shares in bombs or something?
Who does he want to start a war with?
1. Syria
2. North Korea
3. Russians
4. Slant eye chinks
5. Anyone looking a bit darkie from bongo bongo jungle land
Or is he working his way through every country, hell bent, on starting WWIII, from his bunker of solid gold

A MOAB is not just any kind of bomb. It is the biggest Air Burst Bomb we've got - Originally we used these types of bombs to push trees down so we could instantly create landing zones for helicopters. And then we saw what it did to people...

If your inside it's area of effect, it liquifies your innards... exploding your lungs in your chest, shattering your bones in their sockets, popping your eyes... nasty stuff. Outside that you induce absolute and total terror... The shock to your system is so intense the last bomb of this kind we used - the BLU-82 Daisy Cutter - caused irreversible psychological damage to the troops we used it against. You literally feel as if you're being skull fucked by Lady Death herself when you are anywhere near one of these things when it goes off.

The real kicker is that the shock wave can travel through cave systems, over pressurizing and depressurizing entire sections...
just... Imagine going through a water slide... Except at 100 miles per hour... and the sides are actually jagged rock... and there is no water...

VERY descriptive InfoMan................Thank the gods they never had anything like that when I was in the military. It would really twist a man's brain to see aftermath of one of those things going off.

Isn't ironic that Trump threatened further action against Assad if he dropped barrel bombs... then days later Trump drops the biggest conventional bomb in the world In Afghanistan?

Every year in Afghanastan the Talaban has a Spring Offensive. The caves it was dropped on is what they use to transfer men and material around for the offensive. This one bomb was supposed to render the caves unusable. It collapses upper tunnels.

Back in the 80s when the MOAB was theoretical, the question was "can we intentionally re-create the conditions of the Dresden Fire Storm?"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Dresden

I would have thought the first ordance of choice was a MOP
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massive_Ordnance_Penetrator

But, I guess the key phrase was "tunnel complex" so a massive air burst that will burn all the oxygen out of the air over a huge area of real estate would be more effective.

A MOAB is both concussive and thermobaric ... nasty stuff.

Yep, a geeky old ex Sailor keeps a passing familiarity with ordnance developments since he was promoted to civilian.

Sure... do you know if there were any women and children in the caves? Trump is no better than Assad... at least Assad is not hypocritical.

*dropped barrel bombs on innocent civilians.

Interesting that you equate terrorist caves with innocent civilians as both illegitimate targets.

If the point of the bombing was to deny the enemy the cover of the cave system then why not warn them to get their families to safety?

They did warn before dropping. The Army spokesman says that great care was taken to avoid civilian casualties. To me, the translation of that is 'We made sure everyone with fifty miles of the target knew what we were dropping and what it would do, so no one was hurt, including any members of ISIS...'

And cave in the mouths of the caves trapping the enemy inside.

So they could move their troops to a save haven.

I was just pointing to facts. I don't know who was in the tunnels and your points are a concern.

The barrel bomb is less accurate and will (proportionally anyway) do more damage to the innocent than any properly constricted bomb.

I'm glad you translated that because with an 11,000 ton bomb there was no way to know if the caves were clear of civilians. It is just another example of poor thinking by this administration. If he is going to use a sophisticated "Barrel Bomb" perhaps she should not threaten others doing the same.

I've nothing against Trump drawing a red line over barrel bombs... but it is idiotic to say that then drop one yourself.

Butch
