One good thing on the list of absolutely unforgivably horrible things about the Trump victory is that it mobilizes the left-leaning states to take matters into their own hands.
California is taking steps to catch up to the rest of the developed world!

They already got more debt than Russia, how are they going to pay for it ? Their tax rates are through the roof, they are already scaring away both people and businesses. They are always rent seeking.

But le them pass it and they will find out the hard way. liberals can't learn the easy way. And they do not know math, there is no addition and subtraction to them, only abstraction.

It's just fine with me, I wouldn't be caught dead there.

The problem is a liberal leaning state is they pass this type of laws, all sounds wonderful and perfect.

Then no solution to pay for it.

They haven't figured out how to fund it yet.

This is like kids spending money and not even being sensible. In a perfect world, it would be nice to give everybody free education, free healthcare and a basic salary for just being alive.

But the biggest challenge is how to fund it in a sustainable way?

From everything I read, California can't afford it.

Well, how does Canada fund their system?

I know that it's a third world country where millions are homeless and killing each other for meat and the screams of the suffering millions can be heard all the way in New York, but there must be something!

I think it starts with a 't', may or may not have 3 letters, is totally unforgivably un-American to the point where anyone who tries it must be shot, and is always always always considered theft.

California would have increase their state tax to maybe 60% of people's income to fund this.

That's how Canada funds it. Very high sales tax and very high income tax.

And considering without "single payer healthcare", still beats me why Americans call it that!

The term doesn't make any sense to me.

But considering without it, they already managed to get themselves into such a shitty hole of debt. It's just, the balancing budgets of America right now, is doing a terrible job!

You mean tax ? The place is already called "Taxifornia" and they are scaring away business. And you might get fined if your grass turns brown, or fined for watering it. So you have to pay to have it painted.

And with all this revenue and the richest people in the country there they still have a half trillion dollar debt.

Romney tried somethig like the ACA in Massachusettes. Raised every fee and tax possible except for state income tax so he could clai he didn't raise that. Actually this got the state out of debt. Then Romneycare went ointo effect and now they have al the higher costs and the debt is back. That's why he did not carry his home state in the Presidential election, them people know him.

And mind you Romneycare was not even single payer, it was mandatory that people buy insurance.

Let California do what they do. They'll likely put themselves into default sooner or later, depending on what Moody's says.

While that state has no state sales tax. But they still got the 5% whole of Canada Sales Tax.

And whoever lives in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, must suck so bad that they gotta pay 15% on top of everything.

And what it takes to afford their healthcare?

15% on the first $45,916 of taxable income, +
20.5% on the next $45,915 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $45,916 up to $91,831), +
26% on the next $50,522 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $91,831 up to $142,353), +
29% on the next $60,447 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $142,353 up to $202,800), +
33% of taxable income over $202,800.

If they live in Novia Scotia, in addition:

8.79% on the first $29,590 of taxable income, +
14.95% on the next $29,590, +
16.67% on the next $33,820, +
17.5% on the next $57,000, +
21% on the amount over $150,000

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/fq/txrts-eng.html

And plus their crazy 15% sales tax! Gosh what money do people have left for spending on anything!

*shakes head*

well if he is making 45k over the course of 45 working years he is paying in over 1/4 million (315,000 smackers) to the state for his healthcare, what a deal!
at least he is happy about it.

So technically, I'd just take BC as that is one popular place in Canada right?
If I was just making basic 24,000 per annum in BC. I'd have to pay, 20% of income tax total. And my sales tax is still 12% on everything I buy.

Ouch!

Don't know how much is going to rent and utilities and what will be left after that for basic necessities.

In return, if I get sick, health care is free.

Now compare to California for 24000

Federal: 15%
State: A bit confused on how they count but it looks like this may be 7% + 6% = 13%
Sales Tax: 8.75% (I just picked LA)

So total income tax is 28% and sales tax is 8.75%, worst than Canada, and in such a huge debt. WTF is going on!

I can never understand why a big country has differing taxes to dependent on which part of the country you live in.

It feels unfair and not equal.

different economies
same as different households are in different tax brackets.

the biggest problem we have in america is their own stupidity, virtually no one understands the monetary system and how they are getting totaly fucked over by it, and they think the gubmint mob is their friend, cluless fucks.

California will get by and do much better than the rest of the country, despite the higher taxes, as it always does.

CA right now has approximately a 450 Billion short fall in their pension fund. This figure will only grow in the future and retirees will not get the money they think they will be getting. So let them ad another 400 Billion or so for the tax payers to pay.

Makes sense to me HeavyBlinker

Why don't they just fund it by diverting the money directly into to that?

How much does the federal, is it, pay anyway to the HC system in California

from my memory isnt the NHS given £120 Billion quid a year and the population of the UK and California must be about the same at ~70 million

Additional notes:
1. The trumpnofukingcare bill in the senate is effectively a blank bit of paper waiting to be written-just that no-one has shag all of an idea what to write in it let alone pass it. It was funny how they forced it through the lower house fair had me in stitches
2. California has about the 6th largest economy in the world
3. real0ne do you think the Americans realise how corrupt their current system is, and that most of the money just goes to Big Evil Corps, and their enabling subsidiaries, and greedy parasitic bastards who feed off them? While the RWNJ scream lie after lie its mwaaahhhh Obama the poor people etc

Given the bizarrely bad structural deficits Reagan and Bush II created, I don't think the GOP understands math either.
