Musicmystery -> Trump/GOP: $2.5 trillion for top 1%; $2.5 trillion cuts to poor. (6/5/2017 12:00:44 PM)

Trump said he was not elected to serve special interests, but instead, “the forgotten men and women of our country, and that’s what I’m doing.” His budget paints a starkly different picture, however, because it would shift trillions of dollars from struggling families to the wealthy.

At a time of massive wealth and income inequality, just two of President Trump’s tax breaks would give $2.5 trillion to corporations and the wealthy, while taking away $2.5 trillion in programs that benefit the elderly, the sick, working families with children, and the most vulnerable. This is the Robin Hood principle in reverse – taking from the poor and working people and giving to the very rich.

The economic theory embraced by the Trump budget, trickle-down economics, is and it has always been an abysmal failure and a fraud. This is a budget written by the billionaire class and is designed to benefit the billionaire class. Nothing more. Nothing less.

President Trump’s budget must be soundly defeated and replaced with a budget that meets the needs of working families, the elderly, the children, the sick and the poor - not just the 1 percent.

Look into the situation in Venezuela, then rethink your insane Robin Hood mantra

Tax cuts merely allow citizens to keep their own money. That's a god thing. And the handouts that socialists are so proud of, are basically vote buying programs that victimize the poor by making them dependant on government

"Liberal" vote buying programs also harm the economy that everyone participates in by removing the money that is used to build and grow. Costs everyone jobs and opportunities

Socialist handouts looks good on paper in poor light perhaps, but in reality socialism wrecks everyone and everything it touches

The fact of the matter though, is that we just don't have the need for enough jobs to keep everyone at full employment.

1%, not citizens in the sense of "“the forgotten men and women of our country," and it's not a "god" thing.

Those horrible "socialist" policies have the US, 5% of global population, contributing 20% of global GDP. We do alright.

Trickle-down, however, has literally never worked. Even Reagan's top people admitted afterward it had been a failure.

But it DID show how to funnel money to your top donors. Those are the Trump/GOP "forgotten men and women."

Romney lost trying to implement an oligarchy. Hilary and the DNC lost trying to implement their own oligarchy.

Let's see what 2018 and 2020 bring.

FFS why do people even bother arguing with you?
It is impossible to believe what you do while also being capable of informed debate.

Even modest attempts to spoonfeed you reality would be pointless.

LBJ coined a very ugly and succinct phrase describing vote buying through social programs in the sixties.

If social programs are "vote buying," then, given a GOP White House and both branches of Congress, it doesn't work.

Any other silly nonsense?

Not to interrupt, but it would have worked if Bernie was the nominee.

So anytime a Democrat is elected, it's vote buying, and every time Republicans win, it just didn't work that time?

Come on. Do you people hear yourselves?

He won that voting bloc over too

And destroyed them in the process, exactly as planned

Do yourself a favor and read. LBJ was a racist bully who knew putting minorities on the tit would keep them voting Democrat " for two hundred years." Look up what he said to Thurgood Marshall when he appointed him, or what he called the civil Rights act. I'm curious where you're from there's no crime or ugly Democrats?

Please recount that for us, in context with credible citation

Do yourself a favor and stop believing you're the only reader in America -- or on this forum.

Then do yourself another favor and realize that LBJ's bullying and racism isn't driving the poor Trump/GOP budget choices.

Then still another one where you realize that clearly the strategy didn't work. Take a look at actual results. How did all these Republicans win???

Do yourself a final favor and look at what has worked and what has not -- trickle down no, progressive tax system yes.

We already know how to be prosperous. And we know how to explode deficits and exacerbate class economic problems.

Guess which one this is. Given your posts so far, then guess again.

FR to the OP.
He's a politician and he is doing the same thing that virtually every politician at the national level does.

CaptR -> RE: Trump/GOP: $2.5 trillion for top 1%; $2.5 trillion cuts to poor. (6/5/2017 3:14:27 PM)

Again I'm not a fan of Trump. No it's not going to work but then neither does more taxation funding more social programs. Which is what was done in the sixties to cement that voter base. I'll hand it to Bill Clinton he attacked the deficit but he sold the American farm to do it. How did Trump get elected? Look what you put up against him! The most distrusted human being you could find. You tell me how Trump got elected it sure wasn't because a bunch of rednecks got together and voted the good old boy in. It was because the alternative was going to be an even bigger disaster.

See, 1) no one's proposing more taxation funding more social programs in this budget;
2) clearly, that base is not cemented, giving a government overrun with Republicans;
3) I had nothing to do with Hilary, and in fact, worked hard to prevent her being there -- nor did I vote for her as a lesser evil, since either choice was going to be a disaster (just different in kind).
4) the 60s DID partially resolve the severity of the poverty problem in the US (and the economy thrived all the same).

Meanwhile, back at the Trump/GOP budget, they are funneling money to the top 1% at the expense of the poverty.

THAT'S the topic. Not all the tangents to pretend it's not what's happening.

Why would they be funneling money back to the top 1%? What possible reasons could they have as a motivation to do that?

Musicmystery -> RE: Trump/GOP: $2.5 trillion for top 1%; $2.5 trillion cuts to poor. (6/5/2017 4:07:21 PM)

It's hard to believe you are actually that naïve.

But if you are, look up trickle down theory and paying off your big campaign donors.

And not to forget that Trump himself would benefit financially, as would his companies and his families' companies.
