ORIGINAL: jlf1961 And the fact that you anti gun people are going to ignore these numbers, which are far greater than those involving guns and concentrate strictly on guns proves one fucking point, you do not care about children's safety unless a gun is involved. There is at least a slight distinction here between gun deaths and deaths from alarming and/or stupid misadventure, surely? As well as providing another way for an inquisitive child in a house full of morons to kill them self, they also make it a lot easier for stupid people or their offspring to kill other people's children, and that is a problem in a way that somebody dumb enough leave toxins, dangerous tools or other lethal booby traps lying around where there offspring can encounter them isn't, as a rule. Actually, the carelessness that allows a child to get to an irresponsibly stored firearm is EXACTLY the same stupidity that allows a child to get to any one of those items that accidentally poison far more children per year and kill far more children per year than guns. However, anti gun idiots fail to see the connection between the stupidity of one and the stupidity of the other. But, here is the problem with anti gun people, they only see ONE problem, guns. And since we are talking about preventable deaths, lets get some facts straight. Guns are NOT the leading cause of deaths for children ages 16-19, automobile accidents in which they were the driver are. In fact, guns are not the leading cause of preventable deaths of any age group of children in the US, drowning and accidental poisonings are, followed by car accidents. Guns fall to a distant fourth slot. But, guns are the easiest thing to control, ban guns and save kids. Yeah, save 1300 out of the close to 20000 children that die from preventable accidents. Then they scream about guns that are used in criminal acts, of which most are in the hands of individuals that by FEDERAL law should not be able to buy a gun in the first place, and wouldn't be able to if those liberal anti-gun idiots would actually support making one thing mandatory for use by all law enforcement and judicial agencies. But no, we cant do that because it is an invasion of privacy. So, some jackass who has a protective order against him from a judge in a county that opts out of putting that on the national criminal data base goes a couple of counties over in the same state, buys a gun and goes back and plants a bullet in the brain pan of the women he beat the fuck out of that got him the protective order in the first place. Then they point to gang violence, and the fact that guns are a primary problem there. Okay, well folks hate to break the really bad news to you. In LA county last year, the local law enforcement agencies confiscated 2 fully automatic weapons (which are not sold at wal mart or any other gun dealer in the US) for every one gun that could have been legally bought. LA county also picked up a few thousand high capacity magazines which are illegal in the state of California. Now since we are talking numbers, lets look at the facts. There are over 270 MILLION legally owned firearms in the US. The average legally authorized gun owner in the US owns more than one gun, the current average is 5, some more, some less. So, for all those legal guns (and gun owners) to be responsible for those 1300 children killed by guns in the United States, each one of those kids had to be shot with 207,692 guns. I mean anti gun people are holding all legal gun owners and guns responsible. But wait, it is impossible for those kids to have been shot with that many guns. Even the anti gun people will admit that (while blaming ALL gun owners, which is why we should get rid of all privately owned guns.) And yes, when you look at the FBI homicide statistics, guns are the leading cause of deaths.... The most recent available is 2011 with 12,664 A large number, agreed. However, if you really read that report, you find 20% of those guns were reported stolen prior to the crime they were used in (oops, some responsible blood thirsty gun owner called the cops and reported his/her gun stolen.) So, if we are to blame all gun owners, that means all of us actually participated in killing those 1300 kids. But then, by the same logic, every driver should be held responsible for every kid accidentally hit by a car. Every person that drinks is responsible for every one killed by a drunk driver. And every woman who uses make up is responsible for every kid accidentally poisoned by cosmetics. And the list of responsible parties goes on... So, why dont you hypocritical mother fuckers admit the fact. It is not that kids die in preventable accidents, it is the fact that a small (very fucking small) percentage are killed by guns as opposed to the much higher numbers of kids killed by other preventable means.
