. . . will take place on July 20th. He will be 70 years old on July 9th. If parole is denied he will have to wait five years for another hearing. He has spent nine years jail time on a 33 year sentence for the botched burglary attempt to regain his sports memorabilia from two dealers. He or one of his helpers was armed with a gun during the event.

I have a lot of trouble finding sympathy for the guy after the brutal murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman. Like many people I believe he got away with murder.

The question is: should we put the murder event to rest and accept that OJ paid his debt for the robbery, or do we as a society owe it to Nicole and Ronald to hope OJ dies in jail? I won't deny there is racial bias in my ruminations.

What do you think?

I agree. Let him rot in prison. He got away with murder and then he was still dumb enough to commit that robbery. It just show's he didn't learn anything.

He was sentenced to 33 years for the robbery, when he has served each and every one of those years then he should be released.. jmo...
Remember, this wasnt just any robbery,.. it was a robbery to keep items he used to own from the Goldmans & Browns for their civil suit.. and he was convicted on 12 counts, including conspiracy to commit a crime, robbery, assault and kidnapping with a deadly weapon.. He hasnt paid his debt yet.. nope..

He needs to stay in jail. I too believe that he got away with 2 murders.

He learned he could get away with murder.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks. From the early replies it seems that OJ warrants no sympathy here.

He was found not guilty dude remember and many prosecution witnesses were offered deals. He was betrayed by his associates on plea bargain and copped the entire rap and the sentence was far too high. Why folks have been given 50 years for jaywalking in the past.

Bottom line; is OJ a danger to society?
AT 70, I think not. Let him out on parole and save the public budget the cost of guarding him.

If the "old farts are no danger to society" thing is grounds for release, why's Charlie Manson still locked up?

Actually, the big difference between whether Manson and OJ should or should not be released (due to age or any other reason) is that Manson WAS convicted for his part in the Tate and LaBianca murders, and OJ (rightly or wrongly) was acquitted.

Love it or hate it, that's how our legal system works, and even with it's faults it is still probably one of the best legal systems in the world.

I don't remember the source or the exact quote, but it was something like, "It's better that ten guilty people go free than for one innocent man to spend a day in jail for something he did not do."

True that, but I was taking issue with the "no longer a threat" argument for parole.
Whatever can be said for the American legal system, it's openly punitive rather than making any pretence about rehabilitation, and as a result the prison system is full of inmates who are only going to be leaving prison in a coffin. In the face of that, claiming that somebody shouldn't be locked up (or should be released if they're already inside which is, as you point out, a very different thing legally) isn't all that convincing, frankly.

Well, it's why there are parole hearings, not automatic releases.

And then supervision by a parole officer who can throw your ass right back in prison.

They'll probably turn him loose to make room for someone to serve their "Mandatory Minimum" for a bag of weed.

Would you want Manson as your neighbor if he were to be released ? I know I wouldn't.
