Status: offline 		Well, if it were to happen in France you can bet we'll let them dangle on the rope awhile before coming in to help. LOL

There is one thing that people seem to overlook. If this were to happen, the people doing this wouldn't be looking to take over any government. They would just as soon wipe it off the face of the earth then have to bother.

Oh, as for the "U.N." no-one really cares what they say anymore.
They're blowing off their big mouths and issuing "resolutions" again about that Mid East mess. lol

They're a bad joke! They really do need to leave the U.S.
A nice place for their new Headquarters, Bagdad, Iraq!
In this state (South Carolina) you can keep a loaded gun in your vehicle. It has to be in the console or glove compartment.
And that's *without* a Concealed Weapons Permit!
I really do "try" to be tolerant but I'm retired military and we didn't most times have a chance to have a "committee meeting" before we did things. So sometimes I tend to be a little rash or gruff.
Oh, as for the "Bigwigs" in Washington telling us what to do, we have one of those "Bigwigs" in this state by the name of Senator Lindsey Graham who's going to be thrown out on the street unceremoniously on his ASS come Nov 2008 for voting for that "Amnesty" crap!
And I think him and his staff know it too!
People are already writing to the newspapers about this no good bastard!

Look at what was done in the European colonies in the 19th and 20th centuries.  How long ago were we handing out smallpox infected blankets to Indians?  When did we experiment on blacks to see how syphilis killed them?  When did we firebomb entire cities filled with civilians?  When did we drop WMD on entire cities?  When did we overthrow legitimate democracies and replace them with right wing dictatorships?  When did we operate torture chambers?  When did we torture people to death?

I despise the extremes in the Muslim religion, I would love to see Osama's head on a pike, but the West forgets all too quickly the barbarous acts we commit daily.

I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. Ovarian cancer is NOT caused by an STD. Cervical cancer, however, MAY be. Some strains of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV or genital warts) cause cervical, vulva, vaginal, anal, or penile cancer because it mutates the cells in that area. That has been known for a long time. But, there are about 130 strains of HPV and only a few create cellular changes.

There is no "cure" for cervical cancer apart from excision, radiation, chemotherapy, or surgical removal.

What they HAVE discovered is a vaccine for HPV. But, the issue is that they want to innoculate girls under the age of 10. There has been no long term study of the vaccine and they are not automatically wanting it for boys. Which is where misogyny comes into play.

With most diseases seen as "female", there has always been blame involved with regard to contacting it. Cervical cancer has been correlated with those women who have had "multiple partners". However, the definition of multiple partners in that study is more than two in 7 years.

Status: offline 		The point wasn't which cancer but that there is a vaccine that the reasons Republicans don't want used because they are no longer allowed to stone women to death and they hope threatening them with cancer might work just as well.

Status: offline 		I wanted to comment on how appalling the level of racism is in this thread. I am not shocked that many of you would have these views, but I am disgusted with the way you general you, not everyone) have expressed them.
 
Yes, it is/was horrific how that girl was treated and murdered. But, the fact is that the same things occur in North America; unsanctioned (yet pretty much condoned) by our gov'ts, ALL THE TIME.
 
Ask all the womenfolk in your lives if they were ever molested or raped, you will get a high number of yes's. Ask again if their victimizer was ever prosecuted and you'll get an equally high number of no's. If you do get a rare yes, ask whether the person got convicted and what the sentence was. I'd put my money on low conviction rates and less than 5yrs in jail.
 
If we condone the oppression and violation of women and children in our own backyards, we have NO right point fingers across the world! Not that we can't get angry and be affected, but we cannot speak until our own society is safe.

The gov't actually does want to use the vaccine, but their reasoning on who should get it and when is skewed by their prejudices and sexism.

Having laws in place requiring a woman be killed because she was raped and not doing enough to prosecute when someone is raped is VASTLY different.

Do we need to change, of course, but there is NO comparison.

And my ex was a rape counselor so been there, done that on the lack of prosecution.

I was not specifically referring to you in that post, it was a general comment to a lot of posters.

Sure, it is different, but it is gradations on a curve. There is no black/white. There is comparison...just ask someone who was raped and still has to live with the knowledge that the person who did so is walking around free...possibly even having to be faced with him on a regular basis.

I've been a rape crisis counsellor myself, but I've seen it more in my own life. For the record, I have never been raped or molested. However, I know SIX women who were raped their first time being penetrated. Those are purely from my social circle and I haven't even asked everyone.

Consider as well, the fact that neither the US or Canadian gov't will approve refugee status for women who will be murdered or sexually oppressed if they return to their country. They get deported. How is that not collusion?

Consider also how the US gov't keeps reproductive rights in constant jeopardy. Women are STILL not considered capable of making decisions for themselves on the whole.

Misogyny is prevalent all over the world, in varying degrees. I stand by my statement that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones...they should put up some gyprock.

right, as i mentioned in a post a few posts down, i realized that i was wrong and now i'm trying to figure out where the hell i got shriya from (because i know i got it from SOMEwhere...)

so, if you bothered to read, you might have seen that :)

now, that said, i find it amusing that we are all about beating up other governments who are putting the women down but we totally supported dictatorships in haiti that made womens' lives hell. not that long ago, either.

*shrugs* but that's hypocrisy for you.
