In honor of the "What kind of car do you drive?" thread, I thought we should also tell folks what our FIRST car was.

Mine was a powder blue 1964 Cadillac Sedan de Ville that I purchased for $1500 in 1978.  I loved that car.  Had a trunk big enough to build a condo, sat eight comfortably at the drive-in, and those tailfins... Man, I miss that old car!

I used to drive a '94 Suburban, before I cleverly avoided a deer and doged directly into the ditch and a big big rock.

Mine was a 1968 VW Bug too.  The first thing I did was have it painted Plum Crazy purple.   Loved that car :)

1968 Oldsmobile Cutless Supreme -  I got it for Xmas, 1976 because my brother got a '76 Toyota, brand spanking new and I got the hand-me-down. I loved that Olds .. it rocked! Part of my present was 4 brand new fat tires and a years worth of auto insurance to go with it. I used to fill that car up with friends and go to the drive-in for 2 bux a car load. :)

My very, very first car was an English car, a Sunbeam Minx, that I picked up for a steal.  No wonder, it was in the shop half the time!

Next got a VW bug and that was FAR more reliable.

I took my driver's test in a Chrysler from the early 60's....push-button transmission in the dashboard.  (Note that I took my driver's test in 1974.)  Try spinning that huge steering wheel around for parallel parking.

My first car was a Rootes Group car -- a 1953 Hillman Minx convertible that my folks bought when I was 12 and was given to me when the engine blew up when I was 14.  I spent all my birthday and christmas money for two years on that car, rebuilding the engine and making it driveable again.  I drove it for a few years, ratio was about two hours behind the wheel driving, two days under the hood fixing.  British made fun cars, even if they were a tinkerer's delight or a mechanic's dream, or even a driver's nightmare at times.  .

It was 1968 or 1969 Volkswagen.  It was sweet.  My dad put black pinstripes on it.  But, it was also a recognizable car.  That became problematic for me when my dad received reports of my activities.  I drove it to school and the guys in shop or ag would often move it to another parking lot.  I'd come out of school and never know where my car was.

A 1967 Yellow Mustang fastback.
It went over a 300 foot cliff. Long story.
