I remember where I was when Kuwait was invaded by Iraq... I was on board HMCS Athabaskan, getting ready to deploy for 6 months to visit Europe..., then I wound up in a briefing.. saying oops not going to Poland.. we are off to the Persian Gulf.... I was reposted because I wasn't qualified enough to go into a combat situation

Once again, ISIS was created by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a man the CIA pointed out as a real problem in 2003 before invasion, that needed to be nipped in the bud. The Bush/Cheney duo said no.

After the invasion he declared himself the caliphate. ISIS was created under W.

The Real Obama Legacy (Top Ten)

8. Underestimating ISIS: Premature departure from Iraq and no discernible Syria policy aided the rise of ISIS. Refusing to take the group seriously accelerated its growth. Obama called ISIS the JV team, insisted it is not Islamic, and treated fighters like civilians, for instance refusing to bomb ISIS fuel tankers. Perhaps they were union drivers.

So ISIS was there and for 5 years under W, created precisely the vacuum for sectarian violence (revenge) for [it] to flourish and it's all Obama's fault.

What was an estimated $1 billion of trucks, ammo and fuel etc., doing there, left available by the US ? Bush's malfeasance and Paul Bremer's outright incompetence.

President Bush did not create a power vacuum in either Syria or Iraq, Obama and Hillary did. Two years into the Obama years Joe Biden was so impressed by how stable President Bush had left Iraq that he and Obama wanted to take credit for President Bush's success there:

Biden in 2010: Iraq Will Be 'One of the Greatest Achievements' of This Administration

Obama calling ISIS a "JV" team alone, proves that they were insignificant prior to Obama's presidency

I am convinced you actually believe what you type.

Joe Biden was putting lipstick on a pig. He was saying that the government was stable and violence had subsided. (Both true, but he neglected to say that Ibrahim Awad Ibrahim al-Badri (detained in Abu Gharaib and RELEASED by the Bush administration) was building a caliphate in Syria, based in Raqqa)

There are ZERO Bush successes in Iraq. Only massive failures. The removal of Saddam Hussein, and replacement of it with a Shia-led Iranian puppet government created a MASSIVE power vacuum in Iraq. The Iranian influence in Syria, empowered by the Bush administration, caused the power vacuum there.

And BTW: Quoting Rudy Giuliani???? Really? Obama calling ISIS a JV team somehow negates the massive land reclaimed. The air strikes? The disruption of ISIS supply chain?

You simply have no understanding of the region. Instead you quote a Joe Biden interview, and a Fox News quote of Rudy Giuliani.

Rabid ideologues such as yourself can only try to bash the messenger

You have no links, no citations, the very best you can do is attack the credibility of me and those I provide, and throw out a few wild guesses

I don't need to provide links or citations. I am quoting my own knowledge as a student of the region. You can easily SEE the power vacuum created by the Bush Administration in the article in the OP. (so there is one key link) :)

Every expert in the region sees it as well. If you do not see the political problems with forcing a Shia-led government (heavily influenced by Iran) on a Sunni-majority country, then you have NO business posting on the topic, and have ZERO credibility.

You can reach into your Fox News archive and provide all the partisan hackery from Giuiliani, Gingrich, and your buddy Sean Hannity... None of it changes the political facts on the ground.

If you REALLY want a link or citation... Try this:

https://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com/2015/03/23/isis-the-unintended-consequences-of-the-us-led-war-on-iraq/

I love the way it criticizes Obama for trying to cover for Bush's failures by deflecting.

It covers in detail, the vacuum created by the Bush administration. (TJ's (predecessor to ISIS) war against the Shia. The Shia-led death squads supported by Al-Maliki.)

And it covers the "Awakening Councils"... which is part of the "Surge".

I always laugh hysterically, when I hear completely uninformed partisans like Hannity, Gingrich, and Giuliani state "The Surge Worked". They talk about the increased troop presence. What they fail to mention, is that the U.S. was BRIBING local Sunni tribes with money and weapons BOT attack us.

It is a GREAT article and details exactly what I have been saying.

OF COURSE you don't need no stinkin' facts

You're a know-it-all, knee-jerk far left ideologue crazy

A dime a dozen on here

Get in line behind the other far left crazies. Your link doesn't disprove what Joe Biden attested to, Iraq was in GREAT shape after he and Obama took over

Trying to lay the clusterfuck that Obama created at Bush's feet only proves how determined you are to remain ignorant, despite being shown the facts

And now, even the Amazon Post has to admit that President Trump is cleaning Obama's clusterfuck up

1. I ONLY operate in facts. What I said was "I don't need to provide links or citations.". I said that because I am aware of the facts in this region.
2. Calling me a "far-left crazy" is a loser. It's just silly and you know it. I despise far-left ideology.
3. I really don't give a shit to what Joe Biden attested. My link absolutely definitively proves that Iraq was a mess when Obama took over. You completely lack the knowledge of the politics of the region to understand why.
4. Trying to lay the clusterfuck that Bush created at Obama's feet only proves how determined you are to remain ignorant, despite being shown the facts.

There's no need to supply supporting evidence about Iraq. The historical record is crystal clear.

The entire fiasco was initiated by Bush, with help from cronies like Blair and Howard. Everything that happened subsequent to the invasion can be traced back to the invasion as the root cause. It's really very simple, simple enough for even the likes of Bosco to understand:
Had there been no invasion, Iraq would not have been forced to endure the sectarian warfare, the terrorist threats and outrages, the creation of IS and its predecessor Al Quada in Iraq, the hundreds of thousands of deaths, the trillions down the gurgler, the whole kit and kaboodle, all of which were direct consequences of the disastrous invasion. No invasion and none of that would have happened.

That is the simple inescapable truth. And no amount of ideologically-driven blame shifting by Bosco or any one else can alter that.

Bush Blair Howard and all the other war mongers responsible for the invasion should be at The Hague answering war crimes charges, not enjoying comfortable, lucrative retirements as the Iraqi people continue to suffer and die as a direct consequence of their monstrous criminal ineptitude and ghastly miscalculations.

You are 100% correct.

However, the finer point I was making that, post Saddam, a Shia-led government, encouraging death squads couldn't possibly maintain the support of rural Sunnis, making the western part of the country ripe for ISIS.

And the point of the OP that Iraq has been a major gift to Iran in expanding their influence in the region.

Yes I have posted several times about how the mullahs in Teheran must not be able to believe their good fortune having Iraq handed to them on a platter by their biggest enemy the USA. They must think all their birthday presents have arrived at once.

Iraq is already effectively partitioned, with the northern Kurdish areas a virtual independent republic, and the eastern Sunni majority areas smouldering under Shia misrule. IS exploited these divisions very effectively but now they are a spent force. So my guess is that it will be 'As you were' and a state of actual or virtual civil war will continue from where it was left off when IS intervened.
