ORIGINAL: tweakabelle There's no need to supply supporting evidence about Iraq. The historical record is crystal clear. The entire fiasco was initiated by Bush, with help from cronies like Blair and Howard. Everything that happened subsequent to the invasion can be traced back to the invasion as the root cause. It's really very simple, simple enough for even the likes of Bosco to understand: Had there been no invasion, Iraq would not have been forced to endure the sectarian warfare, the terrorist threats and outrages, the creation of IS and its predecessor Al Quada in Iraq, the hundreds of thousands of deaths, the trillions down the gurgler, the whole kit and kaboodle, all of which were direct consequences of the disastrous invasion. No invasion and none of that would have happened. That is the simple inescapable truth. And no amount of ideologically-driven blame shifting by Bosco or any one else can alter that. Bush Blair Howard and all the other war mongers responsible for the invasion should be at The Hague answering war crimes charges, not enjoying comfortable, lucrative retirements as the Iraqi people continue to suffer and die as a direct consequence of their monstrous criminal ineptitude and ghastly miscalculations. You are 100% correct. However, the finer point I was making that, post Saddam, a Shia-led government, encouraging death squads couldn't possibly maintain the support of rural Sunnis, making the western part of the country ripe for ISIS. And the point of the OP that Iraq has been a major gift to Iran in expanding their influence in the region. Yes I have posted several times about how the mullahs in Teheran must not be able to believe their good fortune having Iraq handed to them on a platter by their biggest enemy the USA. They must think all their birthday presents have arrived at once. Iraq is already effectively partitioned, with the northern Kurdish areas a virtual independent republic, and the eastern Sunni majority areas smouldering under Shia misrule. IS exploited these divisions very effectively but now they are a spent force. So my guess is that it will be 'As you were' and a state of actual or virtual civil war will continue from where it was left off when IS intervened.
