Guns are NOT legal for everyone.

Then what about the "The right to bear arms"? That makes it legal for everybody!

You missed two points, one of which is incredibly vital, Greta. Jeff referenced someone who LEGALLY owns a gun being very unlikely to get involved in a gun fight with the police.
Your question to that statement demonstrates that you don't understand that "incredibly unlikely" does not mean "never." Thus, just because someone is incredibly unlikely to do a thing, that doesn't mean that person will never do that thing. And, your question also demonstrates that you don't understand the difference between someone who legally owns a gun and someone who does not legally own a gun.

Actually, I misunderstood nothing.

Yo continue to misunderstand. You questioned Jeff's assertion that people who legally own a gun are very unlikely to get involved in a gun fight with the police. First, if we assume the shooter legally owned the gun, that he got in a gun fight with a cop (actually, just shot the cop) doesn't negate the Jeff's claim. If the shooter did not legally own the gun, then this instance doesn't fall under Jeff's assertion.

Clearly you didn't understand.

And, while we're at it, it's likely at the back of every cop's mind that a suspect could be armed. How many times have you read that if you pull your gun, you had better be ready to kill someone with it, otherwise, don't pull it out. There was no reason for this cop to expect the suspect to be armed. Pulling a gun on an unarmed person, especially when the complaint is that he was stealing groceries, will be vilified in the court of public opinion, and would be considered threatening with excessive force.

Should the cop have had his gun drawn when he went to talk to the people outside the store? I mean, technically, any or all of the adults could have been packing, too. Just because they were the ones to call the police doesn't mean he wasn't walking into a trap.

he dodged the draft your commander and chief - do you believe I am in error?

He had bone spurs, contrary to what you have been told that is not draft evasion.

My Dad was rejected by the Navy way back when because he didn't have high pressure fillings in his teeth, and it was peace time, so the military didn't see a need to fix my Dad's fillings.

Wrong. Anyone convicted of a felony can't legally own a gun.
Anyone who has been committed to a mental institution cannot legally own a gun.
Open carry is not legal in many places.
Concealed carry is not legally in many places .
Chi and DC make you jump through so many hoops that it might as well be illegal to own one.
San Diego you practically have to be a friend of the sheriff or one of his political friends to get a permit
same on much of the east coast.

The army wouldn't take me because I have 3rd degree flat feet. I got a waiver from the Air Force.
Not trying to get that waiver would not have made me a draft dodger, of course the draft had just gone away
when this happened.

FR

Let us go back to the actual case.
The man tried to steal things from customers at a store.
The cop arrived quickly.
The victims pointed the thug out to the cop because he was still in sight.
The cop tried to question the thug who ignored him and kept going.
The cop became for insistent and pulled his tazer because there was no indication the thug was armed an dangerous.
The thug not only ignored commands to get his hands out in the open, for those to dense to understand that is
what take your hands out of you pockets means, but he shot the cop.

The reverse is not possible.
The cop is defending the community just like a person defends his home.
To put the cops on the same legal level as the thugs is to put and end to civilization, because it means the cops
are no different than anyone else who takes the law into their own hands.
