I am far from convinced that there were many racists in VA

When this story first broke I thought it was a local area protest against the removal of a Civil War monument. I commented on what I thought was unfair labeling of protesters and that a good portion were most likely there to protest the loss of their heritage not as racists.

Well I was wrong... as this story has developed even a blind man would come to understand this was mostly out of town trouble makers and racists. I don't believe they represent the Republican party as a whole and you would not be betraying your conservative beliefs to condemn them... Unless you are racists.

Many people are saying that yesterday's appalling incident was a spur of the moment thing, a rash act. Most people are now describing it as a terrorist act and a hate crime. But these two statements don't sit easily together, even if the murder turns out to be an unplanned sudden outpouring of rage.

The hate that motivated this killer wasn't born an instant before he decided to drive his car into a group of anti-fascist and anti-racist Americans. It wasn't a natural act. The hate that motivated him was a long time festering and churning inside him, nurtured by the ugly politics of the far Right, white supremacy and groups like the KKK. 'White nationalist' politics, seen as fringe only a year or two ago, have slowly been infiltrating the mainstream of US politics, fuelled by platforms such as Breitbart and individuals such as Trump and Bannon, who have given a certain respectability to it. In this context, Trump's refusal to explicitly condemn the far Right thugs is especially significant.

Is the US at a crossroads? Is it time for those mainstream politicians, who like Trump have been flirting with the far Right, stirring racial tensions and marginalising minorities, to decide (or be forced to decide) between their sympathy for the politics of far Right thuggery and conventional politics? To what extent has the dalliance between the forces of hate and the politicians who have harnessed these ugly forces to gain office laid the ground for terrorist acts such as we have just witnessed? What should happen if Trump refuses to distance himself and the office he occupies from these thugs? Is it time for the US to declare itself a zero tolerance zone for far Right thuggery and hate?

Why don't you provide a "reliable" link to where a main stream politician have been flirting with the far right and stirring racial tension. Provide actual actions or verbiage of those politicians, not projections from leftist useful idiots.

Trump's 'Chief Strategist' Steve Bannon, ex-boss of Breitbart the self declared platform of the alt-Right movement is one such link. Indeed employing one of the far Right's leading spokespeople as your 'Chief Strategist' ought to tell you all you need to know about Trump's courting of the far Right and the depth of his ongoing connection with the politics of hate.

Just in case that wasn't enough, Trump's own re-tweeting of tweets by racists during the election is another well known public sign of his flirtation with the ugly politics of hate.

I note that for all the belligerence of your posts on this thread, any distancing of your self from, or condemnation of the terrorist act yesterday is absent. Perhaps you might like to rectify this, and unlike your bosom buddy Bosco who refuses to, condemn an act of terrorism carried out on US soil killing a US citizen ...

I read your first sentence and stopped because you're having reading comprehension troubles again and I didn't need to go further. I said provide a link to a politician saying something, not your projections/imagination. Show me where they said something not just where you imagine a conversation. That or prove you can mind read. I've seen video of both Hillary and Bernie negotiating with BLM for their political favor. Show me someone on the right doing something similar.

I'm really getting concerned about the education system in Australia, it seems both reading comprehension and critical thinking aren't a concern there.

Antifa started the violence, by all accounts. Also, the New York Times is even reporting (I posted the link in one of these threads somewhere) that the police were apparently ordered to allow antifa to be violent, by Democrat politicians. The police stood down, just like in Fergiuson, just like in Baltimore, just like at Berkly

The violence that the Democrats pushed escalated, which normally happens in such situations

Someone was killed, due in large part to Democrat party radicals

I condemn that.

Happy?

It seems that Trump now *has* condemned the 'evil racism' involved in this incident. ""We condemn this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence," he said. "It has no place in America."" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-40927089

Well, better late than never.

Obama's knee jerk reaction, when a black professor was arrested in a confrontation with a white cop, was that the white cop "acted stupidly" in Obama's words

In this case, President Trump immediately condemned the violence by "all sides"

President Trump is the smarter, better, least racist president of the two

By far

Maybe some sort of commendation for the officer, too.

Yes, I agree.

It's easy to forget that, despite the headlines, 99+% of officers are hard-working, dedicated, caring men and women doing their jobs well.

Trump finally comes out and condemns hate groups, giving a statement he should have given Saturday:

“Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans."

"Those who spread violence in the name of bigotry strike at the very core of America.”

President Trump immediately condemned all sides in the violence, which Democrats were a huge player in escalating the violence, even ordering the police to stand down and allow it to happen

Just as they did in Ferguson, Baltimore, and Berkly

Obama has yet to condemn Black Lies Madder and antifa terrorists, or those Democrats who repeatedly order the police to stand down and allow the violence (much of which happened while he was president)

You never heard a leftist here, or the mass media arm of the Democrat Party howl about that

how do you arrive at that bit of asswipe?

The left needs to make up their mind. Do we single out all terrorism by race and religion or affiliated political groups OR do we not?

IF they can't say the word, "Islamic Terrorism" then why must Trump say more specific words towards White Supremacy?

They aren't being consistent.

So which moslem terrorists were given a free pass to continue terrorist activities and attacks on protestors in the 'States, Greta? I'd be grateful if you could point at the news stories about that, as I seem to have missed them.

For instance, the one that shot up the gay nightclub in Florida, CAIR which is the mouthpiece amount others. Along with every future one that is now being imported under Obama/leftist policies...

Have to stop you there: Obama hasn't been the president since January. I'm surprised you didn't notice as there's been a bit of media attention on the new guy.

Well, what a little cutsie. When was it, just two days ago you were talking about Regan and he hasn't been around for how long. What a hipocrite. And for your information, because I know you only pay attention to very narrow news sources, consider the refugees we're required to take from Australia because of Obama's agreement with them. Refugees Austrailia refused to allow entry into their country because of security reasons. Don't be more of an idiot than you naturally are.

The refugees that el presidente threw a tantrum at Turnbull over back in February and who still haven't been let into the 'States? The ones who it's been suggested his anti moslem executive order was contrived specifically to renege on the deal to take them by making it look like a general thing rather thn welching on an agreement his predecessor made?
Yeah, they're obviously a big threat.

You're a blind, arrogant, ignorant, unthinking slob, who projects a lot

From your own favorite leftist rag:

But if Charlottesville was grieving on Sunday, it was also questioning. Governor McAuliffe fiercely defended the police in an impromptu sidewalk interview, noting that many of the demonstrators were armed, and saying the officers had done “great work” in a “very delicate situation.” And he said Ms. Heyer’s death, which he called “car terrorism,” could not have been prevented.

“You can’t stop some crazy guy who came here from Ohio and used his car as a weapon,” Governor McAuliffe said. “He is a terrorist.”

But others, including Mr. Kessler and Ms. Caine-Conley, openly wondered if the violence could have been prevented.

“There was no police presence,” Ms. Caine-Conley said. “We were watching people punch each other; people were bleeding all the while police were inside of barricades at the park, watching. It was essentially just brawling on the street and community members trying to protect each other.”

Jeff Sessions agrees with the governor:

Sessions Says ‘Evil Attack’ in Virginia Is Domestic Terrorism

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Jeff Sessions said on Monday that the “evil attack” in Charlottesville, Va., over the weekend meets the legal definition of an act of domestic terrorism, an early declaration in an investigation after a car plowed into a crowd of protesters.

“It does meet the definition of domestic terrorism in our statute,” Mr. Sessions said on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” referring to a fatal attack on Saturday when a vehicle drove into a crowd protesting white nationalists, killing one woman and injuring others. A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged by Virginia authorities with second-degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding and failing to stop at the scene of a crash that resulted in a death.

“You can be sure we will charge and advance the investigation toward the most serious charges that can be brought because this is unequivocally an unacceptable evil attack,” Mr. Sessions said, adding that terrorism and civil rights investigators were working on the case.

Mr. Sessions appeared on several morning news shows on Monday, condemning the violent demonstrations over the removal of a Confederate monument and defending President Trump’s response.

Mr. Trump has been reluctant to criticize white supremacists for the weekend’s bloody protests in Charlottesville. The attorney general’s remarks were notable for being more specific and direct than the president’s in condemning the alt-right, a loose collective of far-right activists, some of whom espouse racist and anti-Semitic views.

Mr. Sessions, who is coming off weeks of pointed criticism from Mr. Trump over his performance as attorney general, was pressed to explain why the president had not forcefully condemned white nationalism.

Under federal law that was expanded after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, a violation of federal or state criminal law qualifies as domestic terrorism if it appears to be intended to coerce or intimidate a civilian population or to coerce the policy of the government. But domestic terrorism carries no additional penalties. Investigators rely on charges like murder and assault in prosecuting these crimes.

The Justice Department announced over the weekend that it was opening a civil rights investigation into the Charlottesville incident.

Lol, who was it that brought up posting history? Who is it that can only project or get off being a sick fuck. Oh, the person projecting here that I'm responding too. It's not your vaj. Nobody is interested in that...or thinks about it. It's more like people slowing down on the freeway when there's a wreck. Why is it you always have to I flick on us your sick attempts to get yourself off? It's nothing more than, for instance, a woman calling a guy a jerk. You should stop interjecting your autoerotic drives into the forum. While I understand that's all you have, it's just not pretty.

Charlottesville Mayor Michael Signer said Trump bears responsibility for the violence that erupted in his city.

“Look at the campaign he ran,” Signer said in an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. “I mean, look at the intentional courting, both on the one hand of all these white supremacists, white nationalists — a group like that — anti-Semitic groups, and then look on the other hand: the repeated failure to step up, condemn, denounce, silence — you know, put to bed all those different efforts, just like we saw yesterday. I mean, this is not hard.”

On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, Trump’s national security adviser, said Trump’s denunciation of hate groups went without saying.

“When he condemned bigotry and hatred on all sides, that includes white supremacists and neo-Nazis, and I think it’s clear,” McMaster said. “I know it’s clear in his mind.”

On Sunday, Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and White House adviser, issued a two-part statement on Twitter denouncing the hate groups.

“There should be no place in society for racism, white supremacy and neo-nazis,” Ivanka Trump tweeted.

She added: “We must all come together as Americans — and be one country UNITED.”

Earlier Monday, before delivering his statement denouncing the KKK, Trump lashed out at Kenneth Frazier after the Merck & Co. chief executive resigned from the President’s Manufacturing Council.

“America’s leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy, which run counter to the American ideal that all people are created equal,” Frazier said in a statement.

Trump promptly tore into Frazier, tweeting that his resignation will give him more time to “LOWER RIPOFF DRUG PRICES!”
