Hmmm, so Trump is to blame, but the mayor who took an oath of office to keep the peace in his city gets a pass just because the KKK showed up in his town and he did nothing about it? When I was 13 I happened to be in Houston visiting my cousins.We were downtown when a police cordon line was set up on the street. Not long afterward a group of marchers in full KKK regalia went by. Being a Yankee I had never seen KKK, or even heard of them. I asked my cousin what was going on. He shrugged and said, "It's the Klan, they do that all the time." It was no big deal to him or anyone else around and they passed by, the police cordon was removed, and that was as far as it went. I doubt it was a particularly effective event for the KKK, as no one seemed to be taking much notice of them. Who knows? Maybe they recruited one or two new members as a result. I don't recall who the mayor of Houston was at the time, but he did provide as much police coverage as needed on the spot to ensure a civil event. Basically the KKK was marginalized and had little effect. Charlottesville, on the other hand, had fewer marchers, but was allowed to become a violent event that is sure to recruit people to all sides. A tale of two cities, one that knows how to handle such events, and one that allows citizen injuries because the mayor doesn't happen to see eye to eye with the president.
