What non-lethal course of action would you suggest? Remember her being mentally ill doesn't give her a pass when she points a gun at you.

What business is it of the neighbors? It's her life, not theirs.

The neighbors are bad because they are compassionate human beings? They should wait till she

felt threatened the police had to go and at least get to the bottom of this, it was a legal matter.

I somewhat agree with this, if she was not threatening anyone with a weapon.
Threatening to harm yourself, can also be perceived as a threat to others.
Mental health professionals should have gone in FIRST, then there is the issue of their safety.

Hard situation, sadly, this is the order of the day in the states.
