JVoV -> RE: Cake Is His Art. So Can He Deny One to a Gay Couple? (9/17/2017 10:49:42 AM)

This case is more complicated than the article suggests even. There's no mention of States' Rights. Colorado should have the right to manage intrastate commerce, as it sees fit, enabling protections for minority classes as it chooses. If the Colorado law, as written and enforced, is deemed too vague, then the Court will overturn previous decisions. But I don't think that will happen. The Colorado law is written well, and has been enforced accurately, to make any goods or services offered to the public to be offered to the entire public. It's a reasonable law, allowing people to do every aspect of their business that doesn't have religious connotations in any way, while protecting the rights of consumers for equal access. The underlying problem is that there has been very little thought given in Congress or many states, to lead on how gay marriage can and should effect commerce at all. As the article says, 'Christian' groups just chose to move on to the next fight, instead of sitting down to work with the other side, so that everyone is as protected as possible. It does surprise me that Trump has chosen sides on this, because discrimination is just not good business. Apparently, I've given him more credit than he deserves.
