seems like tear gas would have done the job in a situation like las vegas, and maybe blinding lights as well. speaking of lights then---I wonder about lasers being able to be used to target the shooter's weapons. thinking more---if something like las vegas happens again, there might be movement towards having counter snipers present at large open air events.

They really did stand out against the brightness of the Despicable Me 3 poster just behind them. I did not feel safer because they were there but neither did I feel less safe. In fact, I don’t recall thinking about safety at all. I was just surprised but as I write this I suppose my ultimate feeling on it is, no, I don’t want that to be the normal in the US.

Tear gas could work if SWAT was close enough. I have less faith in blinding lights, since a sniper has one eye in the scope, and the other usually closed, right? The problem with counter snipers is positioning. I don't believe a sniper could have been placed anywhere to counter Paddock. But here's the scene, if you see somewhere. Most likely sub machine guns. High rate of fire , easily deployable, and in pistol calibers so it reduces the penetration. Important in a crowded area.

Sorry, that's not how it's done. The claim was made there should be some citation for it. I doubt that your average event requires Special Operations Security or anything else that might need to remain classified. I would like to have the information. I've never seen anything like that at a concert or any other venue that wasn't political, and in terms of it being more effective I would think that it would be a deterrent having people know.
