ORIGINAL: PeonForHer FR Really, is this the answer, and Americans are OK with it - armed security guards surrounding gigs, schools, kindergartens ... anywhere where people gather? I went to this place, I think it was called CineWorld..a multi-screen movie house in Glascow near Citizen M .. and was very surprised when I entered the lobby to see two guys in uniforms with gear and holding weapons standing next to the wall facing the entrance doors. I am not well-versed on the weapons topic and don’t know the differences but these were not long rifles or hand guns..something in between..maybe M-16s? I don’t know if those guys in uniform were military or regular police force, there as usual or there because of an unusual circumstance or special need at that time. They really did stand out against the brightness of the Despicable Me 3 poster just behind them. I did not feel safer because they were there but neither did I feel less safe. In fact, I don’t recall thinking about safety at all. I was just surprised but as I write this I suppose my ultimate feeling on it is, no, I don’t want that to be the normal in the US. Most likely sub machine guns. High rate of fire , easily deployable, and in pistol calibers so it reduces the penetration. Important in a crowded area.
