An organ transplant does not guarantee survival for the recipient, and can risk the life of the donor. Now, consider the amount of homosexual activity in jail and prisons (half my porn collection), and think about if you want to rush a transplant for the child. A 90day waiting period would give time for any issues to show up in the blood work.

Depending on the test, as little as 14 days from HIV exposure, or up to 90 days.

The original labs were scheduled for September 29th with a surgery date of October 3rd. That is a pretty short window of time. If they were worried about any of the viral infections rampant in jail, they certainly arent going to get those results in time if that was the results they were looking for though.

At the risk of sounding cynical, I think you might have your suspicion in the edit backwards: the sorry little shit might have been bleating about how he wanted to donate a kidney to his son while he was inside in order to endear himself to the parole board. Once he got out, it looks like that suddenly became less important to him. Now that he's found himself back in the system again, his kid is back to being the most important thing in the world.

He was inside (for his first probation violation) when he said this: "Once I get out, I'm going to promise to my son that he can get a kidney,'" And then when he got out, he broke his promise by acquiring the second. I know you have an erratic medical set up over there, but this isn't on the hospital: it's on him, and I find his pleading for sympathy by claiming otherwise utterly disgusting.

I can see the logic of forbidding convicted prisoners from volunteering to be donors in order to get special privilege. Convicts tend to be very very good at gaming the system to their advantage. The flip side is that keeping convicts from gaming things puts the innocent at risk.

No. It's Federal law, or at least FDA regulation, which amounts to the same thing. And I'll point out that I'm not a felon, and have never been on parole or probation. I'm sure it's terrible for the family to watch the child go through his ordeal. But the father needs to step up as a human being and stay out of jail for 3 months. That is all that's standing in the way.

Just a thought... What if the reasons he violated his parole and the hospital is requiring a waiting period are one and the same. The hospital would be violating HIPAA law by saying the babydaddy needs to detox.

Not necessarily an addict, but may have gotten hold of some when he was released? Either way, the transplant team clearly believes there is enough reason to postpone the surgeries for a 90 day period. To me, that says drugs (though likely mild, and not necessarily illegal). And I don't doubt that someone mixed up with weapons charges and violating parole twice would be on something, at least now and then.
