Are the Rank and File Republicans trying to discredit this guy because of his connections to Bannon?

They can blame it on the Democrats, say the right things and beat down the insurgence.
I don't think they have to worry about losing the seat even if the allegations were proven true. It IS Alabama after all.

"If its true"....is todays most overused phrase.
im in utter disgust.
not just with moore and his defenders, but with alabama crazies
Can they not elect somebody decent???
how many stories now about the mess down there?
Moores a nasty piece of work, but he seems to be in "good company"

Heres the allegation piece from the Wa Po
https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/woman-says-roy-moore-initiated-sexual-encounter-when-she-was-14-he-was-32/2017/11/09/1f495878-c293-11e7-afe9-4f60b5a6c4a0_story.html

GOP Lawmaker Says Roy Moore Accusers Should Be Prosecuted for Bringing Claims Decades Late

GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore has his fair share of supporters in the wake of claims he preyed on teenage girls. One of them is Alabama State Rep. Ed Henry. He openly doubted the allegations, and even argued that the four women, now grown, should be prosecuted for talking about this decades late.

“If they believe this man is predatory, they are guilty of allowing him to exist for 40 years,” Henry told The Cullman Times in a Friday report. “I think someone should prosecute and go after them. You can’t be a victim 40 years later, in my opinion.”

Four women told WaPo in a Thursday report that Moore pursed them romantically. Three of them ranged from ages 16 to 18 at the time, and described behavior up to kissing. A fourth woman, Leigh Corfman, said she was only 14 when Moore brought her to his home, stripped him and herself down to their underwear, groped her, and guided her hand to his underwear before she pulled away. Moore was a grown man at the time. The age of consent in Alabama was and is 16.

These alleged incidents happened decades ago. The short answer is, no, prosecutors can’t go after the women for taking years to step foward.

Professor Jenny Carroll at the University of Alabama School of Law told LawNewz as much. She explained there could be exceptions if it entailed the witness being “actively deceptive” with law enforcement during an investigation. This could lead to an obstruction charge. But she pointed out that the Moore accusers couldn’t be charged as Henry suggested.

Not that the exception matters. Corfman never filed a police report. Cops never investigated this, and the statute of limitations ran out years ago.

Moore, who is running for the U.S. Senate in a special election scheduled for Dec. 12, has denied allegations. He said this was a smear job by WaPo and Democrats. Corfman told WaPo she voted for Republican presidential candidates in the last three elections.

Wanna make a bet that if they prove the allegations he gets elected anyway?

There are a LOT of people (I daresay YOU included) who would vote for ANY piece of shit if it had an (R) after its name.

So just fuck your RW howling hypocritical ass right off.

If there were anything to this they wouldn't have waited almost 40 years to bring it up.
Now I am not a big fan of Roy Moore (I voted for someone else in both the primary and the runoff)
But Jones is pro gun control. pro abortion and endorsed by Biden and Lewis.
With any luck Alabamians will not fall for this dirty trick from the Post which will do anything to help the Dems.

Seems odd with as many dirty tricks as have been used against Moore
in the past that they didn't use this if there was anything to it..

i think "timing" is one of the things benson mentioned that gave him pause, but in fairness, two things come to mind---one is this is the first step for moore on a truly national stage, and the other is, the trump/republican hatred could just unseal old wounds.

benson talked about how one of the girls didn't have a problem with what was going on when she was in the midst of it, but later came to see it as bad/wrong.

Unproven and unprovable allegations just before an election, again. From the heavily biased Washington Post - again.

It does amaze me how people, with no knowledge of the evidence, can claim guilt or innocence. What we can discuss is why now... why not 30 years ago? I can make no judgement on guilt or innocence but I do believe some weight should be given to the reason why these women decided to come forward at this time.

Is it because other women have braved the wrath of powerful men... or is it politically motivated? I think that if no charges are brought in a reasonable time then in my mind he will be exonerated. I don't think it is fair to make accusations that destroy lives... unless there was a real crime committed and charges are at least brought before a grand jury.

Thus my point of

"Are the Rank and File Republicans trying to discredit this guy because of his connections to Bannon?"

Unfortunately, our usual RW howlers are too fucking stupid to read the first sentence of the OP.

Maybe they know he is a complete wild card and will not work with the Republican party, just the extreme evangelicals.

The reason is rather obvious don't you think ? It is a he said/she said contest always where the accuser is almost never believed without solid, hopefully physical evidence and within hours of an offense. Even then, [they] tend to bribe, dismiss or intimidate even threaten a witness.

On the political side it is the repubs and all media that took great glee in these sorts of disclosures of only more allegations about HRC and just before the election.

Not to mention what was it, 10 or 11 committee hearings on the same incident, solely for the purpose of further denigrating HRC.

The repubs have nailed this kind of partisan crap for over 40 years.

I really don't think you guys understand the current atmosphere on social media.

A lot of people are majorly triggered and opening up about their experiences; some for the first time, though the incidents happened decades ago.

I have no doubt that there are plenty of people making up stories, but the majority are being totally honest.

And victims don't speak out for a good number of reasons. But they are speaking out now, to try to stop their abuser and to punish him.

I believe you are both right to some extent but I would still have liked to have read that a complaint was made to the police. Yes it would be a he said she said but that would be up to the police to investigate and with others coming forward it could be a police matter.

I tried to file a police report once after being drugged at a club. It wasn't fun. I didn't put myself through it the second or third time.

I was also willingly sexually involved with a guy in his 30s before I reached the age of consent here in FL. I was 15 when it started, AOC is 18. I don't feel damaged by the relationship or the sex, and I don't feel that I was victimized by him in any way, no matter how inappropriately it may have started. So I have no reason to publicly name him, much less file a police report.
