                                     PLATONIC FRIENDSHIP

    I never really understood the concept of intergender platonic friendships.  Perhaps boy/girl platonic friendships can flourish if the men in question are: 1. Gay 2. Castrated 3. So damn ugly that they've given up on the concept of ever physically "having" a woman - but I believe that most of my male peers who claim to speak to attractive women, solely out of  non-prurient interest are bullshitters, or, even worse, unscrupulous woman-flatterers.
    I've known so many boys, rife with insincerity, that have carried on months of inane conversation with chicks for the sole purpose of taking a field trip up the old snapper-roonie. Hell, I won't even talk with a woman for more than five minutes if I don't want to lay pipe to her.
       I can see the responses right now.............."It's asshole guys like you that give nice, empathetic boys like me a bad name."   Boy- does it take one deluded male to downright fool themselves into thinking that their daily exchange with Little Miss 19 y/o Sweetass McGee at the office water-cooler is based on non-sexual admiration.  Well, maybe it is, on the part of the womenfolk.
        During Adolf Hitler's anti-intellectual crusade in war-era Germany, the Nazis spearheaded a campaign to spead the message to wildly fervent German nationalists that true Aryans thought, "with their blood", as opposed to the dead, concrete, black and white, anti-spiritual intellectualism that Jews were thought to have pioneered.  Although I disagree with Nazi rhetoric whole-heartedly, I would like to offer a variation on the blood-reasoning propaganda theme: "Men think with their cock and balls.  Sincere men fess up to it."
        I know that most of the guys out there are going to disagree with me, and offer up lame examples of their Ivory Pure motives for speaking to women outside of the professional realm, as will most of the gals who would like to have better faith in human nature.  My purpose in posting this is to find men and women who AGREE with me.

There are plenty who agree with you ... fortunately, there are also plenty who agree with me that theories like yours are solely based on your experiences and observations, and there is a lot more of the world than what you have seen.

TreSwank -> RE: It Ain't Possible (7/31/2006 11:32:19 PM)

       I think that you're quite correct in chalking up my opinion to personal experiences and empirical observations, but, I believe that Valerie Solanas (gal who wrote the SCUM Manifesto and shot Warhol) was right when she pointed out the male-gender's intrinsic inability to empathize.  I believe that only exception to this rule is a father's love for his daughter, which is clearly motivated by the biological self-interest of genetic propagation.

Bloom -> RE: It Ain't Possible (8/1/2006 1:17:27 AM)

Any rule that claims to have no exceptions is incorrect.
But, to defend the Swank here, there's actually some sound reasoning if it weren't stated to such an extreme - and from such a limited point of view. i mean, where do bisexuals fit in? Do they just not have any friends besides friends with benefits? Yeesh.

But i figure it's not too far off to assume most hotblooded young men will wanna make time with every girl they even see, letalone talk to. i just don't think it's their sole, or always their most potent, motivating factor. Having been male once, i'm in a good position to verify this one, too - prior to going on hormones, i definitely went at nearly every get together, hangout, party, etc. as "it'll be fun, and maybe i'll get laid." It wasn't till almost 17 that i realized that hope was always there, was ALWAYS a part of why i did much of what i did in social situations - and that was a big part of realizing i needed to be a girl, honestly. Lemme tell you, it's a godsdamn relief to not have that floating through my thoughts constantly.

So you owe me, Swank - not for agreeing, but for appreciatively refining your theory.

Teach me to crochet?

With pleasure.  My grandmother (an elderly Southern woman from the heart of the Appalachian Mountains) taught me when I was a teenager.

Well I guess an ugly old sweaty truck driver fits in here some where. The way I see it there is just some times a person thinks the fall out from "laying the pipe" to woman just isn't worth it and I would rather just stay friends. At the same time I wonder how it would be to "lay the pipe" to them. I think as you lose that wet behind the ears feeling you'll learn to think more with the brain on your shoulders and not use the BB in your pants. Then you might understand the concept of intergender platonic friendships.

Must have been hard for her to teach you anything if you won't talk to a woman for more than five minutes before... laying her out with a pipe was it? Oh not quite [;)]

Who I find interesting to talk to and who my libido is attracted to are not neccasaraly the same.  If you find that hard to understand... like I give a shit! [:D]

Tamerofwild1s -> RE: It Ain't Possible (8/1/2006 8:03:45 AM)

ok so like is thread about a guy and girl being friends with out sex . or guys being friends with sex .... the confusion valve has been opened here ...

I have plenty of female friends whom I am just that a friend . someone they can converse with anytime they choose without the anticipation of sex being thrown in .... and I am far from gay ugly or bisexualor any of the other listed characteristics of people mentioned.

maybe I was just cut from a different mold or something

I would venture to say that the age of the male probably has a great deal to do with it.  I do have kids in their 20's and our house has always been the central hangout for their friends. I am also the oldest of 6 children with 3 younger brothers and have had young men around my whole life. I got to know quite a few young guys with raging hormones. Their dream might have been to lay some pipe (laughing at that one) but most of them were actually very sweet and for the most part, terrified of the actual act of sex versus the bravado and big talk they bantied around.
Now you get them in their later 20's and early 30's they get more confident and motivated. After that, usually in their latter 30's I have seen some manners and common sense kick in and the brain can actually migrate back into the skull. For some it takes longer.........ALOT longer! Personally, I have been able to have quite a few men as friends. While there is almost always the sexual undercurrent, it's never been a problem. I just see it as the nature of the beast.

Pimpernell -> RE: It Ain't Possible (8/1/2006 9:13:19 AM)

Well I fall into category 3.  I was born ugly, I will die ugly and in between I'll still be ugly.
However I ain't a woman flatterer.  I have a very good female friend, but she is more than 20 years older than me, so she is like the mother I never had.  Otherwise, I'm cordial to women, but no way I'd be moving their furniture unless we were testing the bedsprings afterwards.

I know one of my friends who is always making elaborate plans which involves becoming friends with women then getting in their pants.  It doesn't work and it is creepy.

       Saltpeter?  Nah.  I think I'd just want to sit around all day, knit pastel sweaters, and talk about stupid, self-revealing "What's Your Relationship Style?" self-tests that I read in  Cosmopolitan.  I like my hard-ons!!!!!!!

        I agree with you.  Few things are more distasteful than to watch grown-ass men break their backs, or go through an elaborate friendship ruse when a HOT girl needs a favor, or someone to listen to her vapid emotional outpours. The lack of balls or sincerity in alot of these men makes me want to puke.

mistoferin -> RE: It Ain't Possible (8/1/2006 9:38:25 AM)

Wow....guess I'm gonna have to break this news to some of my  friends of the opposite gender...some of whom I have been friends with for over 25 years....I don't know how to tell them that it's all been fake because TreSwank says it's not possible.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: It Ain't Possible (8/1/2006 9:41:45 AM)
