amastermind - sorry, two posts as I wanted to reply to your last post separately. I think studies have shown pretty conclusively that in general, women have superior social and communication skills compared to males. Note "in general" - of course some males are superior in these fields to some females, but generally females are better at those things. It doesnt mean men are stupid. Ignoring for a moment the nature of this thread, I would then venture to say that since supervision and management are highly requisite of effective social and communication skills, then women in general should be better at them. That they rarely rise to such positions is not indicative of the falsity of this assertion - their lack of promotion is well acknowledged to be down to other influences - some biological but mostly prejudicial. Of course it would not be very much different in terms of confrontations etc, were women in charge of the country - we all know that. OK the grounds for such confrontation might be different, just as the nature of diplomacy would be different, compared to males. (Although it is fatuous to suggest a woman might say such a thing about another woman in public - bitching has to be done in private, after smiling sweetly at the other woman and talking nicely to her for the last hour dont you know!?). Lions? I fail to see the similarity with human society to be honest! Why not elephants, where the herd is led by a matriarch? Humans are humans and we function as a society because we need one another to survive - we need males and females for that, so that is not the point. The point is rather that the balance of power needs to shift a little more for the benefit of all (not just women), as well as the "rules" of the game. It is just as onerous and stupid to put so much stress and responsibility on males in our society as it is to overlook and demean females when we all need one another. No one, least of all I, would seriously want men to be anything other than men - and equally I do not want to have to play at being a man in order to achieve equality - this is why the "rules" have to be changed. In any case, I guess that equality is not what its about either. Man does not equal woman, just as woman does not equal man - however equitable opportunity, rights, value and treatment is what has to be achieved. E
