Vrieslander -> RE: Government to ban over eating, obesity outstripping smoking as leading cause of death in the US. (8/8/2006 4:19:29 PM)

This poem is part of a poem from Bertold Brecht, a german writer who run from the nazis during the second world war, and finished in holywood, writing film screenplays, and was prosecuted by Mcarty, as comunist in the 50's. He was a comunist obviuosly...but he had no green scales, or horns, or even a tail finished in a spike. Just for general information. And he was true: if you leaves the things happen because is not you matter, then it can arrives to you...

Do you happen to remember the exact name of that poem?

Congrats to twice happy on both her last posts.  Well said. I think the irony of ML's post was lost on her.  It came across as do whatever you want as long as its not something I don't appreciate or approve of.

Thank you

Thats one of my big issues with so much of what we see going on.  People scream about "their" rights while at the same time  wanting to limit what others do.  That is a point with bdsm.  Many vanillas think we should be locked up for what we do.  Who chooses who gets to tell other people what their choices will be?  At some point doesn't it become the case that there are fewer and fewer choices people are able to make for themselves because that has already been determined by someone else?

You are so right and this is what we all really need to think about.

Here is your poem though i do not know who wrote it.

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was aProtestant

Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

I don't know where I have the book but I have. It was in something like "Bertold Brecht's complete poetry", if I find-it , I'll tell you...

The point exactly. There are those who rather than trying to get along, would rather complain and prefer that some outside authority step in to regulate (insert your peeve here). The problem with this is... it's like a snowball rolling down hill, once it starts, it will just get bigger..then someday everyone will lose something they wanted to keep. I honestly think most folks will treat other with respect, as long as they are getting the same treatment back. It's when someone exclaims it's my way or no way, that causes problems.

Thank you Vrieslander.  I went to a site about his poetry but didn't find it there.  I did read several of them though.  It strikes me that he was of about the same time period as Marx, and with a lot of thinly veiled anger in his poetry.
