Okay, cloudboy. You are such a brave soldier! (of course, you are also an attorney, so may think it's no big deal)....but - I hurt for you when I read some of the posts on threads about Poly. As I recall, you tried to have actual intelligent conversations about it, complete with good quotes from interesting books you were reading about it, and everything. Some people just don't want to listen to anyone else's opinion - it's that simple I guess.

I mean, I appreciate not everyone likes or wants to be Poly. But it doesn't mean the have to get so up in arms over it.

Alright, everyone, it's time to agree with what benji said!

(What did benji say?  I have no idea.  But agree anyway)

Yes, the old 2 x 4 ploy - people use it more than they realize they do, I think.
I mean, if I really really like someone, it's sometimes hard for me to disagree with them. But, if it's something I strongly believe, I will do it anyway, I will just try to be very polite (I would have made a lousy lawyer - I can cave at the first sign of  a heated argument. My sister is great at it dealing with it, though - she is an attorney)...it depends on the topic, and how invested I am in it.

Dear cloudboy,

Lad, I did have a good chuckle with the comment of dropping an Oxford Dictionary onto someone's head.

But, dear lad... It might hurt the poor dictionary to do so! --All 58 volumes.
[chuckles]

Respectfully submitted with a bit of humor,
Lady Hugs

I love cloudboy's sense of humor. It is priceless!
Oh - and cloudboy: Please let me know where to mail the wedding gift for you and amayos!

I know you two get along so well, you've decided to have a Hawaain
wedding in October. Personally, I could not be happier for you two!
If this is not proof that diplomacy works, I am not sure what is.

But mistoferin, what would we do when we are bored if we had to stop our occasional war?

This is a discussion forum. Differing opinions and viewpoints are the very thing that make it work. I love to see all of the different perspectives....and sometimes they will even cause me to re-examine how I personally feel on a topic or issue. Discussion is awesome. But there is a point where a discussion turns into an argument....and then there is a point where an argument turns into an argument that seems solely for the sake of argument. etc.

I recognise what you are saying (guilty as charged ;-). But then maybe there is this:

Discussion to argument. Same thing different intensity. How about Islam vs. Buddism  (random) (egads should I even mention Christian vs. Jew(ism?) these days. Mr. Blue Eyes on all on a DUI - whoops).

Simple fact is we are human (<big farkkin sigh>) and humans sux at a lot of things. Like being reasonable, understanding someone else's beliefs, being humble, attempting to communicate things in a non-confrontational manner.

Now from a biological/evolutionary standpoint - the strongest person (oooh how PC) wins. Stupid idiot kills 1,000 people gets the spoils. Genius (maybe not a genius but he sure was persistent) invents the lightbulb and collects $ for years on end. Social influencer wins the heart of thousands of people. Argumentative s.o.b wins a fight.

Who's to say what's best. We may not like 99% of the others and what they do but we all serve a purpose (don't ask me what that purpose is I haven't a clue).

If we don't serve a purpose what is there? Walking dead.

I post from personal experience most of the time to avoid going back and forth since it's my nature to be non-argumentative.  Also, it keeps me in check and allows me to be non-judgemental.  Take my experiences and draw from them what you wish, and throw away the rest.  The main reason I post is not to convince anyone that I'm right or that my way is the only way, but to stimulate thought and introspection.  There are many times when I'm tempted to post and don't after I examine my motives for wanting to post.  Everyone is entitled to opinions however there are times when my opinions are better left unsaid.
