Let's see.....

5 inches easy.

Probably 6 inches.

Nothing less than 4, my gawd!!!!

Right here, on my desk, stares back at me a pair of black patent ballet boots, ankle-high, 8 1/4 inches, size 8.  Cinderella awaits (to crawl).

(Wait a minute......just now seeing the thtread title.  Uh-oh.)

Ahh, ok, that clears up a lot of confusion on my part.
I'm not good with woman's sizes.
So the comfort level as to height up to a certain height would depend on the individual woman then?

You are correct to a degree.  There are many variables.  A great deal depends on the stay of the shoe, that is basically the pitch and the design of the shoe.

As has been said some shoes with low heels kill after 30 mins or less whereas I too have some 5inch fetish shoes that I can wear all night without difficulty.

It also depends on the person wearing them and how used to wearing heels they are.

Myself I must admit to perfering flats especially in the summer as I am always in a hurry and walk a great deal as well I tend to be a bit klutsy at times.

The floor you are walking on makes a difference as well.  When I am walking on a floor such as in a hospital they are slippery and I tend to slide easily which does not make for a graceful look, however if it is on capeted surfaces there is no chance of slipping.

I do believe this is one area where training can be very effective.  If there is no medical reason to not wear the heels.

I had a very bad sprain of my ankle in the early spring and could not wear any heel for a number of months.  However I was able to wear them any height if I was not required to stand in them (wink wink)

Hope this helps

At 6' tall flat footed I really dont have a need for heels to make me taller.... so I never really got into wearing them until about 3 years ago. I can wear up to about a 5" heel but since my momma didnt nameme grace I stay away from walking in them unless I absolutely have too lol.

I like my 2-4" heels and they are rather comfy but as a general rule I dont like shoes so if I can get away with being barefooted I'm happier lol.

OOO Gawd!...heels the bane of my existence!!!..I love them but simply cannot wear them...5 minutes and my feet are screaming this is for the 2" and up and the grace factor...welllll....picture a dog in roller skates and there is what I look like attempting to wear heels...basically I prefer my easy slip on birkenstocks or barefoot..not pretty I know but soo much more comfy and it enables me to get about much more easily..Tempting

Damn you Amazon girl!!!!! Will you come to the grocery store with me and get all the stuff on the top shelves???...lol.

I am more comfortable in a shoe with a good heel than a flat....although I still prefer barefooting it. I broke my upper back a number of years ago and my doc suggested heels to correct my posture. It does help a lot as it forces you to stand straighter. I can wear a heel up to 6 inches very comfortably....but of course it also depends on the make and style of the shoe as has already been said. I also find that the moment that I put heels on it enhances my walk and gives me a sexy "swing". I'm not sure if all women experience that though as I have seen many women whose movements seem stiff and jerky in heels.

Aside from one pair of 3 1/2 inch heeled boots... I never wear heels.  I had surgery on my foot last year, and had a tendon removed from my right big toe. I cant stay on them, in heels, for extended periods of time.  Its a pain, since at 5'4, and my boy being 6'4, those extra few minches of lift would be convenient.

One thing that seems to be left out here is whether or not the woman can walk in them.  To me nothing looks more ridiculous than when you see a woman wearing heels (whatever the height of the heel) and she's walking all stupid and funky because she is uncomfortable in them or doesn't know what she's doing.  I once heard it said that if you can't walk as naturally in a pair of heels as you can when you are in a pair of sneakers, then you shouldn't be wearing them.  And to me that is SO TRUE!!

So, if you can't walk in them, then maybe they should only be worn when your ankles are being strung up to the ceiling!!

I agre wholeheartedly.  Whic is why aside from my boots for picture taking... I dont wear them. Its hard to look dominant and in control when you are wobbling around and leaning on your boy to keep from falling over.

lmao heh sure thing erin, lemme just run right over *winks* just not in heels lol lol lol

Tempting... lmao I feel ya on the grace thing... but there is a boy that I have been speaking with that has completely mastered walking in 5" platform boots and eventually I'ma have him help out with the walking in heels thing... sad that he walks so wonderfully in them and I'd be better off trying to walk in swimming flippers lol.

On another note 4" and under I can handle no problem ( thanks to my mom who stuck me in modeling classes when I was like 12 lol .... run way walking in heels... its a hard thing to do but gimme a 3-4" heel and I've got it covered lol.... too bad I didnt keep the cute shape I had back then, but hey round is a shape too dammit lol heh) .

I am looking forward to learning and mastering the 5" heel though cause the aforementioned boy has some awesomely cute boots that I am so gonna borrow lol.... being tall has its advantages... I can borrow his boots lol ( again how sad he has cuter boots n shoes than me, but there is a definate advantage to having a boy with great taste *grins* plus it saves on the pocket book and he takes such good care of the boots n shoes lol... unlike someone I know ahem.. heh who has shoes n boots just thrown in the closet outta the way *whistles* lol )

"High Heels". What size is most comfortable to wear for you, 2", 3", 4"?

I have very high arches, so usually well padded sneakers are best for me, though I generally go barefoot.

However, I can wear up to 5" (not including platforms) for an evening of normal walking around.

I've seen some in catologues that have 6-8 inch heels, more like "fetish" shoes not for everyday.

3 inches max, unless you're going for the "In charge vamp" look and back it up with the rest of the outfit and attitude.

Some good answers!
I didn't know that much about the "mechanics" of high heels before this posting so I thank all of you!
I do love high heels and lingerie on a woman though!

popeye, I think that puts you into the 95% of all males catagory heh lol...

( although I'm pretty sure that covers 95% of women too because there is nothing quite like the look on your partners face when he sees you dressed to "impress"... that look is one that will brand your soul forever.... theres nothing quite like being looked at and not only knowing for yourself that you're beautiful but knowing instantly in his eyes that you are to him as well....

ok enough of that trip down memory lane... *sighs....*)

I am 5 foot 10, I do not need heels, I can wear them up to 6 inches without falling over, but why? It seems gratuitous to wear them that high at my height. My Daddy doesn't want me taller than he is when we go dancing, the only place I am likely to wear heels out, so I guess 3 inches...smiles.

He doesn't mind the 8 inch heels as long as I am on my back.. at least that is what I understand.

My officeware is a shoe like a bowling shoe if I am going to be performing at an archaeological dig, they do not have a heel and make no marks in the pit.

I am not a physicist, but it seems to me that, regardless of the height of the heel, the chunkier it is, the easier it is to walk in. I do quite well in a heel of 4-5 inches, so long as the heel is thick. Stilettos?? Well... they absolutely kill me! I have one pair of gold leather strappy sandlals with a 6 inch heel... rhinestones covering a thin strap that runs down the front of the foot. They are stunning to look at, however within 5 minutes.. I want to kill someone!
Not to mention, for us ladies who are approaching 50, many of you will be able to relate to the bony prominences that are popping up on your heels, or the sides of your feet as a result of years of wearing stylish but uncomfortable shoes. You would think I would learn!! Yet.. I still do wear em on occasion.

I have had back, neck and leg injuries, so heels are for sit-down fancy
dress events only or private nights that do not require much in the way of walking.
I prefer flat or low heeled, maybe 1/2" boots for the dungeon and slip-on shoes,
sandals or athletic shoes for everyday wear at home, work and school.

I do love watching a shapely woman in a pencil skirt and high heeled
pumps strut her stuff around town.  The wiggle and the jiggle makes
me smile and giggle.

When I was in the corporate world I usually chose two inch heels because I was on my feet frequently during the day. When going out I am far more flexible. This depends if a lot of walking will be involved. There is nothing worse than a nice evening being ruined due to sore feet. I will always bring a spare pair of shoes just in case. For what it's worth I love platform and other chunky shoes and have a serious addiction to ballet boots. They are on my must have list.

The biggest issue for me on any shoe is comfort. I willingly spend more for a well cushioned heel to offset the discomfort that can occur when elevated for extended amounts of time. I also take into consideration the quality of leather. Some are much stiffer and harder to break in. As long as the shoe fits well and looks good I'm happy.

I adore heels, all heights.  Wear them most of the time, I'm only 5' 3".
Everyday officewear, 2"-4" depends on the rest of the outfit.

Lol, everyday i like bare feet or bamboo flip flops but i was a stripper for 13 years and can still run in 5 inch heels. That is about my limit for heel height anything over that gets uncomfortable rather quickly.

We call those 6 to 8 inch heels"bedroom slippers".

If I could chose it would be barefoot or mocs I can just slip off whenever I want. For work I have to wear comfortable shoes that comply with OSHA because I spend part of my days around large equipment. When I go out I wear heels. I used to wear them daily and 3" was about the lowest heel I wore. Now even those kill my feet because I am not used to them. Right now I have severe plantars fasciitis and NOTHING is comfortable. I am not supposed to be wearing heels at all.
