Let's say the CEOs ease back a little, and some don't get a 3.8 million dollar golden parachute for nearly bankrupting a going  concern as well as the company paying their medical insurance for the next nine years.....little things like that.

We could even start cutting into them a little, say a dollar an hour, I know, end of the italian marble dick washer and roller, but hey we all gotta tighten our belts.

$10 an hour is almost twice minimum 5.25 X 2 = 10.50 and as this advertisement clearly states it's within the starting range for McDonalds.

Cable's not a right nor a nessesity to life, someone wants cable let them pay like everybody else does.  A phone's not a nessesity to live life either, it's a convience. Let them pay for their own phone like every one else, now however health care yes I agree someone should make it easily availible for every one to have healthcare.

Federal minimum is what most fast food places offer, unless they are getting desperate for help, in whcih case they start slowly bumping it up until they get the help they need.

Did you read that link?  It's not for a fry cook position.  It's a manager position.  Whether swing manager or whatever, it's still managment.

yes....sure you can move up....but how many manager positios are there for how many people who want to move up?  no one wants to be at the bottom of the barrel.   and as for who pays for the min wage going up?  raise the minimum wage and more people will have a few extra bucks for disposable income...they will spend the money which will help the economy... its econ 101.

But come on folks BLS 2004 report showed a just over 1/2 a million people nationwide working at minimum wage.

"According to Current Population Survey estimates for 2004, some 73.9 million American workers were paid at hourly rates, representing 59.8 percent of all wage and salary workers.1 Of those paid by the hour, 520,000 were reported as earning exactly $5.15, ..."

I did not bother reading the whole thread, because whatever the posters might have said is irrelevant, they are either opposed to raising the minimum wage (and therefore idiots) or in favour of it (and thus capable of rational thought)

also its unfortunate but true....some of these minimum wage workers dont have the life or job skills they need to survive.. things you think would be taught in school ... some kind of training would be helpful..  you know the basics...paying bills, balancing checkbooks, etc

Funny.  First you claim that McDonald's starts at twice minimum wage.  Now you say well if you can't get there in 6 months you don't deserve it (although to be fair you did state earlier also that anyone who stays at minimum wage is a slacker).

So someone falls onto some hard times.  Gets laid off, what have you.  In an area of the country where jobs are hard to come by and wages are stagnant.  They take a job making minimum wage because they have to have something.  Even using your scanrio, 6 months is a long time to try to live on that.  Must be nice to live in your world.

To be precise I said "nearly twice" and I have seen $10 an hour ads for McDonalds as starting pay. It may not be nationwide but in ATL and in Dallas Tx I saw the ads.

This is the best time in our Nations history to find a good job. The unemployment rate is about 4.7%. It has never been lower. There are jobs out there if the McDonalds gig doesn't work out for you
