Now, is it real gumbo? *puts the cajun eye on ya*.... I bought something made by Campbells that was called gumbo, but it was dirty dishwater instead....

I've never had Gumbo, but I love collard greens.

I have to stop reading the food posts while I am on my diet.
Must stick to diet
Must stick to diet...

Collards make for a good diet staple.  [:)]  I will be joining the food deprivation ranks next week[:(].  I first have to clear my shelves of all the bad bad food that isn't suitable for weight reduction according to my metabolism.  I can't through it away.  Why you may or may not be asking? because all over the world there are people starving and it would be wrong to toss perfectly unhealthy, but tasty food in the garbage for no good reason other than for the fact that I want to fit back into my yester year jeans.

But thank goodness, collards, within moderation will be allowed.

bandit25 -> RE: collards (8/28/2006 3:46:21 PM)

Are you kidding me?  Yup.  Heaven has a cookbook they sell and spices that will knock your socks off!

bandit25 -> RE: collards (8/28/2006 3:47:28 PM)

Attention Cuddle and Level...you are hereby invited to Chicago for gumbo...now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Ummmm it's good. One of my favorites. Make you a good roux (rhymes with zoo), add green onions, shrimp, crawfish, or chicken and sausage, and rice.... ahhhhhh.

bandit25 -> RE: collards (8/28/2006 3:51:44 PM)

Oh oh..No crawfish...no shrimp.  Just sausage and chicken.  OK...maybe it's Dixie Kitchen for you.

bandit25 -> RE: collards (8/28/2006 3:55:44 PM)

Yup.  Seafood in general...just can't stand it.  But, Dixie Kitchen has some great (or so I am told) catfish and gumbo with shrimp (I've had it w/o the shrimp) and the pulled pork (no pun intended) is great.

Just as soon as I win the lottery...LOL.  How about if I send you the receipe instead...for the gumbo?

cuddleheart50 -> RE: collards (8/28/2006 3:58:53 PM)

I love catfish almost as much as gumbo, and pulled pork is wonderful as well. Did I say my diet started tommorow?....

I understand, cuddles, there are those around here that don't eat them, but they are quite delicious, especially boiled in a big-ass pot, with corn and potatoes.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: collards (8/28/2006 4:01:45 PM)

I'm sure they are very tasty Level, but I don't like to eat things that look back at me...lol

slaveintheruff -> RE: collards (8/28/2006 4:01:52 PM)
