okkkkkkkk.  i was just at the farmstand. hug a farmer today. i grew up in a big city- lived in a rural area for years before i stopped at a farm stand. man was i missing out!

i prefer to do biz with the little guy- not a chain.  so haircuts car repairs, and produce yay-

anyhow- im a regular- he knows me. on nectarines he said- "oh that one has a spot on it- let me get you another one" then he threw 2 more into my batch.

how cool is that?

then i split my order with my gram..... over 80 yrs old,. it made her day.

Good for you, pahunk. We have a couple of little markets around here, delicious honeydew melons and cantalopes, speckled limas, watermelon.

pahunkboy:::  that was so cool, to split your order w/ your grams  [:)]

We also have some little "farmer markets" around here as well, but my favorite is the 2 story house (around the corner and down the road right before the train tracks and across the second big lake on the right) [;)] they put out whatever they have from their garden and there's a box for the money, nobody ever is out there except an oold brown hound dog, lol.

Actually, I had gotten tired of seeing that someone had been "collard" or that they had "collard" someone so I felt like a thread on greens was in order.

In that case being a proper Southerner i like mine cooked with ham hocks and served with corn bread and pinto beans.

I've never had Gumbo, but I love collard greens.

Ummmm it's good. One of my favorites. Make you a good roux (rhymes with zoo), add green onions, shrimp, crawfish, or chicken and sausage, and rice.... ahhhhhh.

You forgot the tomatoes, celery, onions and okra.

Everything sounds good except for the crawfish...[:'(]

I understand, cuddles, there are those around here that don't eat them, but they are quite delicious, especially boiled in a big-ass pot, with corn and potatoes.

Oh yeah!

Anyone putting tomatoes in my gumbo would have a glowing red ass LOL. Celery and okra are okay, and I only like green onions in gumbo.

I know some that do like tomatoes; I saw a gumbo recipe, with a pale roux, and tomatoes, it actually sounded pretty good.

Hahaha, don't know, but it runs on the "honor system", anytime that I've stopped by and didn't have the correct change, we just left a tip  [;)].  He has a small citrus grove across the way too.
It is pretty cool, I've never seen anyone out there, just that old brown dog.
