To Nasty Daddy......was referring to the debate between Seeks and NG, where Seeks does assert male intellectual superiority

LadyEllen -> RE: Researchers identify "male warrior effect" (9/11/2006 11:34:59 AM)

LL - just some advice; dont get involved in the "discussions" between NG and seeks if you value your time and dont want to be arguing with either or both ad infinitum! (Mind you, its a good way to bump your posts up!)

There are undoubtedly differences between the two acknowledged sexes which are more than simply the obvious procreative "equipment". Some of these likely derive from evolutionary changes related to adopted gender roles. For instance I'm sure there was a thread on here recently (LA, help?) which indicated physical changes could be explained by reference to gender roles, and I recall a report somewhere else which looked at finger length in males being related to evolutionary changes resulting from spear throwing in hunting or some such - longer fingers being better for control and power.

The point though has to be that in the absence of these evolutionary pressures, the introduction of new methods of working that favour communication rather than strength, and the change in gender roles, some of these adaptations are now either redundant in terms of advantage, or even counter productive to the current environment; for instance a "male warrior effect" nowadays leads to anti-social and even criminal behaviours as much as it is related to meeting a threat and protecting the women and children from it.

So yes, men and women think and do things differently, set themselves different priorities etc and this may be due to sex and gender role adaptations. But in the end neither is better or worse, theyre just different. I think a lot of these threads continue for so long because men rightly feel threatened by the fact that women are often now better adapted to some modern roles which formerly were fulfilled by men but which have evolved to an extent that the adaptations men had to suit them to those roles as they were, are now redundant or even counter productive.

Even so boys, dont go all "metrosexual" just to compete OK? There will always be a place for the "male warrior effect", even if its no often on the battlefield.....

E

Dont keep apologizing LL you are doing OK.
Yes at the highest level of creative thinking and  creative activity  I do assert the superiority of the male sex. sowwy. Cant add anything to what I have already said !

It has been a good discussion but I havent seen anything to change my mind.

LadyEllen -> RE: Researchers identify "male warrior effect" (9/11/2006 12:55:03 PM)

seeks - so, in what areas do you feel women are superior, I wonder?

leashlord35 -> RE: Researchers identify "male warrior effect" (9/11/2006 1:22:35 PM)

Score points for Seeks.....It would seem that my own argument that men and women have equal intellectual capacity, actually gives credence to his point that men utilize this capacity more effectively.  So, I am a bit slow!  It takes me arguing against someone to realize they are right!

What makes you think those nine months are a picnic for a man anywhere near a pregnant woman? Men have to endure nine months of hearing "this is all your fault, you bastard!" [8D]

Go pull your lower lip slowly over your head until it touches the back of your neck and get back to me.

Cumon th... I'm very disappointed, surely you have a better fallback than elementary schoolbus rhetoric when your button gets pushed?

Since this is as close to experiencing what childbirth feels like as a man can get to, go try it really, then come back and tell me how easy it was.

alright... i truly tried to forget this... so sue me i can't...however... everything in this post got lost (to me, at least), when i read a grown man type out "sowwy"... [&:]

NastyDaddy -> RE: Researchers identify "male warrior effect" (9/11/2006 2:02:35 PM)

My mistake th, I was always under the impression it was the mother giving birth as opposed to being born, so I didn't understand the nature of the example you provided... maybe it's my conditioning that made me think babies come out below the neck?

It is rather unfortunate that the researchers did not actually use a percentage of expectant mothers in their research to represent pregnancy, it very well could have impacted their results.

Twicehappy, since Scooter and me agree on everything I shall have to get him to have a quiet word with you.  Or not fix your bike when it breaks down. lol

Ask him who worked on HIS  bike last, me or him?

Or who plugged the last tire with a nail in it, or who did the last tune up on the truck or changed the oil in the car last for that matter.

My rides do not break down as i am much better at preventative maintenance on bikes or cars than any man, Scooter included, that i know, and FYI, i am a damn fine wrench!
Sorry seeks...never assume...we will no doubt agree on a few things, but this topic isn't likely to be one of them. twice is a very accomplished mechanic and really is more maintenance driven than I. I love to build and I'm better at creating ridiculous amounts of horsepower than anyone I know, but she is the one who would be more likely to make it continue to purr, long after I had moved on to the next project. ShiftedJewel does things I would only wish I had the patience to accomplish. One of her sewing machines (Serger) looks to be more complicated than my old Pioneer Stereo..and I still think the back of it makes the space shuttle wiring probably look simple.
As for the women being some sort of second rate human..I can't agree. I personally love women for many reasons, but one of the reasons is that they actually do use their brains in most cases, when making a decision. My experience has been that most males will attempt to use intellect until they get frustrated and when that doesn't work, they attempt to whip the problem with force. I'm not innocent in that aspect either, as I have thrown my share of wrenches and slammed a few brew bottles on the table myself, but I usually have a little talk with myself after those outbursts. As for the warring faction part of the equation with regard to females however, as I stated in an earlier post, if you have ever witnessed a catfight in a bar, it is a thing to behold. I have seen many a brawl by men, generally I just kick back and watch, but I have only ducked under the table during a bar fight once...and I'm telling you, that was not Barbie getting a perm that frightened me...lol. I think I know where the term collateral damage came from, and it wasn't on the battlefield..lol.

Give the gals their due..had they had equal opportunities throughout history, there would be many more of them on your list of credits.

If it wasn't for men we'd still be living in caves. They might be nice and clean and pleasant caves but caves none the less.

Sorry, I'll have to disagree with you there - men would have remained quite happy living in caves, but you see you can't really keep a cave clean - it took a woman bitching night and day, to get Og to go out and build a house with a slate floor.

The rest of it? To impress women of course.

And why do we fight? So they won't take our women.

Scooter, at the level at which you describe aren't you really making my point. Neither activity is creative tho'
I do not believe women are second rate humans and have said so at least twice.

Getting the cart before the horse there Zensee lol

Zensee do not be bamboozled by feminist propaganda.....it is mistaken in its extreme form and many women realise that and have recently stepped forward and expressed that opinion.

We have both said that the social roles of men and woman are complementary.

Come now, Seeks, you well know that my entire thesis has been that  it is You who is putting the cart before the horse. Your reversal amounts to little more than neigh-saying (sic). Just saying something is plainly obvious doesn't make it so. It's pretty lazy rational.

By feminist propaganda I take it you mean any facts that don't fit your argument?  There have always been women opposed to even moderate feminist ideas. There are people who think the world is flat . So what? Some women, like some men, can be pretty unthinking too, you know. Doesn't make feminist ideas invalid.

We may have both applied the term complimentary to the natures of men and women but we obviously have vastly different ideas what complimentary means. For me it does not compass supremacy.

seeksfemslave -> RE: Researchers identify "male warrior effect" (9/12/2006 1:14:15 AM)

Zensee said, responding to my general criticism of feminism....
By feminist propaganda I take it you mean any facts that don't fit your argument?

In a sense I suppose your are right.......ooops, nearly gave away too much there Zensee....the things I have in mind are opinions not facts, so no, you are wrong.

eg I believe Camille Paglia said this, whether she originated it I dont know.
The only difference between a man and a woman is that one has a penis and the other doesn't.
Do you believe that ?
Obviously men are responsible for ALL the dissatisfactions that many women may feel.
Do you believe that.
If it is true then at the emotional level it indicates an unspoken dependance that women have on men.
Do you believe that ?

If feminists point to those areas where women have been restricted by males, then I agree, but we can see that freedom has its costs in increased anti social behaviour, especially among young women.
