Too many people treat Islamic terrorism as if its the first time terrorists have ever appeared on the face of the earth. To only work against one sides terrorists is pure hypocrisy.

Has anyone else noticed that all the signs are written in the same exact font and color, seemingly by the same hand, on the same card stock, and in English.
 
For all anyone knows, this could be one guy passing out signs with hundred dollar bills taped to them. When you read the text, it almost makes you imagine that the signs were written by an American.
 
Anyone care to place bets that the people holding those signs, even know what they say?

As Philosophy said - there is nothing new about terrorism and its foolish to brand the moderates of a group to whom the terrorists appeal as all being the same; not for any woolly fluffy bunny reason - but because that just drives the moderates to become terrorists themselves since they might as well be.

What distinguishes the Islamist terrorists from many who went before is one major factor - they are far better financed and far more clued up on how to push our buttons than any other group ever has been.

We must also be careful as Philosophy I think indicated, to remember that one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. I'm inclined to think that if AQ were in Gaza, resisting some of the terrible persecutions of the Israeli state, they'd be freedom fighters - but when they come to London and blow up the public transport, then theyre terrorists.

And above all, Islam is not a force for evil. Its the same as any religion or political force - it can be turned to almost any purpose one desires, good or evil, and if we are to brand any one religion as being evil by reference to the deeds of some of its adherents, then there are certainly better candidates than Islam.

So let whip out the old Quran and give those verses you quote a look see! Please note I am going by the Quran, the commentaries, my own knowledge and opinion.  Also, I am not a Christian or a Muslim. Just someone who loves knowledge and being of an open mind.

Verse 4: 74

Let those fight
In the cause of Allah
Who sells the life on this world
For the Hereafter.
To him who fighteth
In the cause of Allah,-
Whether he is slain
Or get victory-
Soon shall We give him
A reward of great value.

In the Grace of Allah,-
Of the Prophets (who teach),
The Sincere (lovers of truth),
The martyrs,
And the Righteous (who do good):
Ah! How beautiful the Company.

That is the whole verse.  One: Keep in mind when this was written. Going to fight for Allah was probably going to war and the chances are you might just die…painfully. What are you scarifcing for? For something everlasting and of great value. To be in the Grace of Allah, the Prophets, and others right on down to the ordinary people who live in a righteous way.

9:111

Allah hath purchased of Believers
Their persons and their goods;
For theirs (in return)
Is the Garden(of Paradise):
They fight in his Cause,
And slay the slain:
A promise binding on Him
In Truth, though the Torah,
The Gospel, and the Quran:

To paraphrase the commentaries a bit: “We offer out whole selves and possessions to Allah and Allah gives us salvation.  The true doctrine is redemption: This doctrine is not only taught in the Quran but in the laws of Moses, and the original Gospel of Jesus.  
It is ones self-surrender that counts, not other people’s merits. Our complete self surrender may include fighting for the cause both spiritual and physical.”

That is all I am going to do for now. I can do the others if requested.  All the verses you have quoted are out of context in some way!  Be careful of the Quran you quote, some are not very good translations.

On Caitlyn's point - the BBC ran a report pointing out the same thing, the signs were all created by one man and handed out to the crowd.  That doesn't excuse the fact they should have looked at what they were holding but as the demonstration wore on, more and more of the protestors realised what was on the signs and discarded them.

Those that didn't now have files with MI6 and one was recently arrested for carrying a fake gun, apparently.

Your posts reminds me of how on 9-11 news broadcasts showed the same handful of Palestinians celebrating in the streets after the towers were attacked, it was really deceptive for in news reports they made it sound as though Palestinians were all celebrating this, when it was like maybe 10 or so. You could have probably found 10 Americans that would celebrate the same thing if you looked hard enough for them.

Julia, I don't know about the film footage you mention, but there were more than 10 that cheered what happened. I watched a report with Egyptian college students laughing at 9/11. There are those that did not find joy in 9/11, but felt we "deserved" it in one way or another. And there are plenty of muslims that denounced the violence against America and others, and find no solace in terror.

Ok, NastyDaddy, if that is what you want to believe. [:D]  I could probably pull up Bible verses one could use for all sorts of horrible things. Yes, people will use religion to further their political agenda. The problem is not with the religion but with the followers.

Yes I agree CuriouslyKat... and I also agree with your bible verse comment.

Many neighbors for such a long time have literally stated in unison... "your religious belief and religious philosophy are not mine, therefore infidel, your's are dung!"... while many others chanted "We donn nned no steenking religion!"

Religions are some of the greatest entertainment vehicles and mechanisms of war ever created by mankind. Absolutely true that it's not the gun/religion that kills, it's the idiot/follower pulling the trigger...

I was speaking of this group of about 10 Palestinians that were shown over and over again as if they were a huge crowd..I know nothing of the Egyptians you mention.

It was widely reported here in the UK that some of the footage showing Palestinians celebrating wasn't even connected with 9/11 but taken from 3 years earlier. In its original form the celebrations were the Palestinians reaction to Israel's withdrawal from the land around the West Bank town of Jenin and somehow, for whatever reason, inserted into reports about 9/11.  You can make up your own minds why.

Must have been the same Palestinians who were filmed carrying a dead comrade killed by Israeli soldiers down the street in a funeral procession. Funny thing was, when the cameras were thought to be shut off, he miraculously got up and walked away.
I am sure that Palestinians celebrated when Israel withdrew from The West bank. And I am even surer that they celebrated the reports of Americans dying on 9/11.

Would it be a surprise? After all, America provide the weapons and the Israeli insurance policy that keep the Palestinians subjugated. It is still no proof that Islam is a religion of hate any more than the death of thousands of Palestinians is proof that Judiaism and Christianity is proof that those two religions are hateful. It is a terrirtorial war.

It might be just me but it's not the most convincing video ever. Why would Palestinians, who have rarely been short of dead bodies to use for propaganda reasons, need to invent one?

Hey, not to piss on your parade here..

But I know plenty of white people, British people (heck, even one or two white citizens of the USA), Canadians, Australians etc. etc.

Who were pleased about 11/9 - I don't number myself amongst them. Loss of life is something that should be avoided at all costs (excepting certain specific circumstances which are a whole other fight [;)]).

You don't have to be a fundamentalist, or religious, or from the middle east, to hate the USA. Great swathes of the western world hate the USA, and wish truely awful things on its leaders and people. It should then be no great suprise that you have loads of religious extremists foaming at the mouth and gunning for you. Equally, it shouldn't then astound them that they have loads of.. er.. I'll stop that thought before I offend more people [;)]

I particularly enjoy this fight (Islam is all about killin', no it isn't, yes it is), and have had the chance to watch it dozens of times in the last few years [:)]

Wasn't it Jesus who said don't throw glass houses?
