That is before the days of the internet and the days of meeting others in bars or clubs. This is not to say I give my number out if I am not comfortable. It is usually after I have communicated with the individual for a period of time (nothing preset) and feel I would like to hear the voice of the person I am typing with. I have tried voice on my computer but in the past I sounded kinda like a chipmunk on speed so that really did not work. Owned

Personally, I have no problem giving out my phone number for one simple reason. I have a cell phone. They arent caling my home, I dont have to give them any information aside from my number, and I can gaurnatee that I will be the only one answering. Back when we had to weigh th eidea of handing out real home numbers, I was a lot more cautious. But now, heck, why not. I have free evening minutes. DV

Reply to OP I give my number when I feel ready. If I dont feel sure, I'll use my cell phone or block my number if using the land line before I call the other person. After I feel comfy, then I stop blocking. Ive never had a problem, or had anyone get mad at me or take it personally. If Im interested in someone, I like to take it to voice in a relatively short period of time, but that doesnt mean they need my number on the first call. Im not navigated at all by logic and reason, Im navigated soley by intuitive feelings. After I get a voice read Im better able to determine sanity, or lack thereof, on the other end. On a computer, thats almost impossible, even for me.

Valid points. If I order a pizza, I think nothing of the delivery guy knowing my name and address. But the pizza delivery guy hasnt been having delusions of granduer about tieing and whipping me either.

Whether it is right or wrong depends on each person's own personal comfort level and preference. Personally, I have no desire to invest a great deal of time and energy on electronic communications. I know that I am not interesed in a person who lacks good communication skills. For this reason, speaking on the telephone, then meeting in person (if warranted) is my preference.

I essentially skip the phone. If they are somebody I want to meet, we meet. I only call to confirm that I'm showing up. No annoying one-handed conversations. lol I'm sure it must have happened at least once, but at the moment I can't recall ever asked to "prove" I was female with a phone call.

All you can do is follow your hunches. You never know who is going to be cool and who isn't. Stalkers can come from real time as easily as they can from over the internet. A funny note about "the pizza guy"... A new comer to a social in San Diego years ago was the pizza delivery guy to a private party the week before.... Master's dorei

While cell numbers are untraceable (unless it has a business address), that wouldn't stop a pesky stranger from repeat calls. And if you have dialup cam chats can be heck! Aren't There are throw away cells that are usable for impromtu contact? I think they may be refillable on hours. Welllll.....on the internet you really can not see who you are giving your number to. You are trusting they are indeed the sex/age/person they claim to be, unless of course you have seen/heard them on cam & voice. Personally I have never given my number out in a bar. (I'm just not that kinda girl...hehehe) But if I have spoken to someone enough, I get a feel for if I am comfortable or not. For those who believe cell numbers can not be traced - - they can. At some point, however, you are indeed correct - it's time to converse on the phone or there is simply not enough trust to continue. My Master gave me his number in a week. I called him and did not block my ID. Thank God we are both still alive! :)

I have no problem giving out my number once I get to know someone online. Giving them your phone number is the next logical step. Then meeting in person.

I eventually want a relationship with a real live human being, and in that, there has to be a ramped up element of trust. I'll talk to them until I feel I've got enough info and see enough consistency that they're worth my investing an hour on a phone "interview" with them. I will offer my number and provide some basic instructions on calling -- one, it's not your personal sex line, two, it's to be used respectfully, three, to understand that there are times that I will answer but have to abruptly disconnect (I might be in clinical activity for work that I need to be taking calls...) My filter system seems to work pretty well. But I'm a person who readily has my contact information on the internet and on all of my class materials.....YMMV.

That involves the Defense Security Service doing verification of U.S. citizenship, fingerprinting and their completion of the Personnel Security Questionnaire (SF-86). It got a little too daunting, so now I just hand out my number and pray for the best.

Master's dorei Totally off topic but amusing: A slave arranged a sedan service for us when we were down in Miami on a mutual business trip. We went to Ft Lauderdale to a restaurant called the Cave (?) and then to Club Kink. At some point, he started asking us about the place....saying that he'd heard about it. I threatened to spank him if he didn't tell me how he knew about it, and that started off the debauchery for the evening! Get yourself a headset and use Gizmo . - It sounds great, better than a phone call IMO - You can change your accout info if you get unwanted attention - It's free - Headset leaves hands free for ... other things.
