i've been a registered Republican for a long time, and am just aghast at what GWB has done.  Also worked for Jeb, who is a creep too.  i want the party to return to the fundamentals...smalllest possible gov't, esp at the federal level; only essential gov't functions; extremely/no intrusion into privacy.  i feel caught between the cradle-to-grave Dems and the nutters from the religious right.  pinkee

Cuddleheart;  Just a joke, no offense intended.

Julia;  Chill.  The point of the thread was to highlight the cracks in "party unity" and maybe start some interesting conversation.

No offense taken WyrdRich, To each his own is what I say, thats what makes the world go around.

Sorry for misinterpreting, it is not an easy subject for some of us....[:D]

Robert "Sheets" Byrd, boy, that's got to be a tough one for the Dems having a former Ku Klux Klan member in their Party.
I vote Constitution Party all the way.

TotalitarianFL -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 6:32:49 PM)

Voting would be ideologically disingenuous of me as it would stand as tacit approval of the parties and the process. So I refuse to vote, although I am very politically active and involved otherwise. The advantage of not being a part of the broad and vague coalition that is either the Republican or Democratic parties is that at least you don't have to worry about being in same boat/empowering the people that you can't stand but with whom you share a candidate with.

MistressWolfen -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 6:34:19 PM)

I have just recently started to study your political system...and find it interesting if limiting.  In Canada I hate 'em all and want Rick Mercer as PM...*LOL*. I grew up with a non-party system in the territories so will watch and learn from all ya all.

TotalitarianFL -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 6:41:24 PM)

By the way  pinkee, have you ever considered bolting to the Libertarian party?

sissifytoserve -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 7:01:07 PM)

The thing is.....they AREN'T republicans......they are neo-conservatives..Big difference.

Bush's big government policies put Clinton's to shame by comparison.

Even clinton didnt sign onto the horrible UNESCO plan.

Goes to show you how much of a socialist parasite Bush is.

MasterScorpious -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 9:01:21 PM)

Actually they are Facists and the gay and lesbian community are their Jews.  The Republican Party has gotten very fond of comparing the Democrats to the Nazis when the truth is that they themselves are The Fourth Riech we have always feared.  Questioning their policy will get you shouted down in a chat room or forum like this.  I hope and pray that somehow someway the Democrats can get control of the House.  However I am not foolish enough to call for impeachment proceding because we could never get a 2/3s majority out of the Senate to remove him from office any more than the Republicans could to remove Clinton

UK politics. Nobody can tell the parties apart anymore.  You have Tony Blair for Labour, a man so robotic and predictable he doesn't write speeches, he reconstitutes them from wherever he spoke last. Whenever he's in England, which is pretty rarely, he is about as welcome as a pubic hair on a wedding cake.

And the Conservatives - who got spanked 3 elections in a row - put forward David Cameron.  A man with only a quarter of the personality and charisma of a breakfast cereal.  His political philosophy seems to be centred around "It must be our turn to govern by now, surely".

Therefore I am going to vote for the Green Party.  Because I like carrots.

Archer -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 9:38:21 PM)

Since we have no national Libertarians in office I can only speak as to what they keep fouling up their chances with in every national election.

When will they get a clue that leading the party platform with DRUG LEGALIZATION is not a smart political move and only serves to marginalize them?

Actually most people I talk to are for legalizing at least pot, but then again I live in California

Archer -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 9:48:23 PM)

While ther might be a large number of city dwellers who would be for legalizing pot there are not enough to make a real go of it at this time, the Libertarian platform has more to it than just the drug thing, however the only time you see a spokeman in the news for them he's spouting off on that one issue. It's killing their chances to engage in the rest of the debate. It simply isn't an issue with which you gain credability on national governance with.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 10:39:45 PM)

I dislike two kinds of Democrats.  The first kind is the triangulation Democrats who try to do what Clinton did, but can't pull it off--and end up just selling out.  The second kind is the Democrats who think we can solve everyone's problems with a toolkit left over from the 1960's.  Those guys also tend to be unaware that we have any serious environmental problems in this country.

Among Greens, I dislike the ones who spout the "it doesn't matter whether you vote Democrat or Republican because they're equally corrupt" bullshit.  I think the past six years have shown that it matters.

I can't stand Bush but the one good thing he did was to keep us out of that "UN" money scam "Kyoto."

Isn't it ironic that for a party that's been so historically adamant about protecting states rights, they seem equally adamant about trying to squash those rights when it doesn't suit their purpose.

States Rights is the backbone / hallmark of this republic and they've been the key-most conspirator in seeing to it that those rights remain in a perpetual state of erosion.

I just hate all the ones on both sides and even the middle that can't say or do,  a truly worthy thing.Wading through all the BS spewed by the lame buzz word, focus group, swiftboating, lightweights wastes the time of all of us and crowds out the ones with good things to say and do from all sides.

Manawyddan -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/16/2006 5:52:41 AM)

I used to be a registered Libertarian, and would vote about 50% Libertarian, 30% Republican, and 20% Democrat (checking ... that adds together? ... good).

However, I feel that the Lib party has strayed to the right in the last decades, and no longer has the intellectual prowess that it seemed to in the 70's and 80's. And I have lost all respect for the Republican party.

As much as I am unimpressed by the Democrats, I have been driven to voting a 90% party line Democratic ticket, which would have astonished and repelled me when I was younger. I do still vote for the rare Lib or Green who impresses me, especially for local offices.
