I am not certain that Julia was saying it to be hateful. She was simply pointing out the irony of those who want to draft people, yet do whatever they can to keep their own from being drafted.

Kinda like how Monkeyboy jumped over 50,000 enlistees with the numerical minimum (25%) on the test to be in the Texas National Guard. Not to suggest that his father being the Governor of Texas at the time had anything to do with his securing a position which guaranteed he would never serve in Vietnam.

Your post makes it sound that serving one's country through involuntary military service is a bad thing. Why is it more hateful or awful for the daughters of the president to be drafted to fight in Daddy's war than it is for Julia's peacenik pimple-popper to be forced to do so?

Just me, etc.

Well Sinergy, considering you regularly refer to the President as "monkeyboy," I'm not at all surprised it slipped past you.

I understand the frustration (and fear) in the comment. But when people call for a whole new social standard for those they don't like, I see hatred.

A new social standard? You mean like rich kids fighting for their country? You mean that sort of standard? How terrible for me to think that the people who have gained the most from being American should fight in the wars, which historically the rich often shirk while the poor and minorities die for their freedom.

If you do not understand that Rich maybe it is because you think that being rich should afford you certain privileges, like sending the poor and lower middle class into combat because they can't see any other sort of future without an education. I do not see it as hateful because I do not want ANY of our children over there, not yours (oops I forgot you have none), not mine, not Bush's.. too bad he didn't feel that way

Edited to say that it is one thing to call a public figure a name, it is another to attack an individual you are debating with. One is done for humor's sake, and the other is done to denigrate someone... I have zero respect for the latter behavior from those I debate with and I do not get personal.. too bad others here DO

      Yes Julia, I think you are FILLED with hate. We weren't talking about sending the offspring of wealth and power off to war, we were discussing whether women should be drafted and sent there. You can call it a joke all you want, but the humor assumes your audience is just as bitter and bigoted. I'm not.

      Sure sign of a narrow mind, they go all to pieces when you laugh in the face of their hypocrisy.
