WyrdRich -> Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 3:05:16 PM)

Voting Republican since 2004 has put me in a strange position.  I absolutely despise the Fundy Right, yet here I am, voting for the same people they do.

Whatever your political persuasion, what elements of your side do you wish would just shut up and go away?

juliaoceania -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 3:10:45 PM)

I do not have a party, I wish all politicians that divide us to conquer us and give our tax dollars to their friends would go away.. I am such a dreamer.

Tell ya what, I define people by the company they keep, and I certainly would not want to be defined by Pat Robertson or Joe Lieberman... that is just me and I could be wrong

WyrdRich -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 3:16:46 PM)

But you know which side you'll be voting on in November Julia, who makes you almost regret it?

KenDckey -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 3:17:06 PM)

I would like to see paid lobbyists and tax deductions for political campains to go away. I would also like to see paid politicians go away.  In the early days, most politicians served at the will of the people not the all m ighty dollar.

Hmmm which side is this Rich, I am thinking Green or Libertarian...

On Edit, I am campaigning against Feinstien when her number comes up

KenDckey -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 3:22:10 PM)

I am also in favor of term limits as an expression of the will of the people.   Keeps those underpaid politicians that I mententioned above from getting to rich in office.

I flushed my 2000 vote to Nader, so I can respect that.

Well, unfortunately, my interest in that (that they'd all go home and never show up for a press conference again) would only insure chaos.

The fact is, as rotten as the system is...it's better by far than not having one.

Hmmmm...lemme think now, we've had PAC reform, we've had legislative reform, we've had lobbying reform....yeah...that's worked.

Sure.

More reform...yeah, that's the ticket.

Level -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 3:42:48 PM)

I've been a registered Democrat my entire life, but I don't have a "side". Many of the ones I wanted to see go have gone, such as Tom Delay and Cynthia McKinney. Ted Stevens, Governor Hair (aka Rick Perry), and Robert "Pork" Byrd could all go and make me a little bit happier.

Chaingang -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 3:48:07 PM)

I am hard pressed to think of anyone of whom I can support even 75% of what they stand for. Until the advent of campaign finance reform and the actual removal of corporations from the political process we shall not see anything better than what we have right now.

FWIW, and even though I despise them, the Christian fundies are at least legitimately part of the political process agreed to in the Constitution. They are people with their own particulars views (views with which I vehemently disagree) - but they are at least natural persons unlike corporations. We certainly want to encourage people to participate in politics and voting, I just wish we had more people of a different viewpoint doing so.

Yeah I know.   but if you don't pay politicians as I suggested above, then term limits would help prevent them from gaining so much power over time that they could garner great sums for "peddling" influence.  no that didn't sound right.   but anyway the longer they are in the greater the potential for corruption or someting like that.

And I agree, it isn't a perfect solution.

juliaoceania -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 3:48:28 PM)

I have spent much time helping raise awareness about the peace movement, environmental issues and the like. I have talked to people of all political stripes. I used to think that democrats were better than Republicans until I questioned whether or not I wanted to cast my vote for John Kerry (I was a Kucinich supporter), but when I expressed concerns about the Kerry candidacy I was attacked. All democrats could do was get this constipated look and chant "Anybody but Bush". It reminded me too much of the republicans I knew and I figured if I wanted a republican I would vote for one. The more I look at the politicians in both parties, the more I realize the difference is more of a display and show than a substantive one.

That brings me to my decision to support third parties. I am not aligned with people I think look like they swallowed the Kool Iad (Flavor Aid for the readers of Wikipedia). I do see a difference between Tom Delay and Barbara Boxer (for example, I do like Babs btw, and she is my senator), but I decided I was not supporting people that support being in Iraq or laws that take my liberty.

That pretty much negates both parties for me. I do not want to see anymore bodybags (or should I say hear about them since we are not allowed to see our fallen children). I am like Crappy in one regard, I would love Bush to be tried on war crimes, and I would like this because there cannot be peace without justice.. we need justice and so do Iraqis.

I cannot fathom voting in the interests of that evil son of a bitch named Pat Robertson, that concept is so alien to me. I would rather never vote at all than vote like that...

But that is just me

meatcleaver -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 3:56:40 PM)

I'm on the left, if no one has guessed but I hate social work politicians who know better than me in how to run my life. I'm happy to pay a little extra tax for good universal healthcare, education and public transport but I hate hate HATE the left's inclination towards thought control!

ScooterTrash -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 4:03:17 PM)

Surprisingly, the last time I registered after we moved, I didn't have to pick a party..hurray. I don't pay any attention to party affiliation anyway..if the candidate sounds like he will vote the will of the people in his constituency, I'm all for them. If on the other hand he has preconceived notions that aren't going to be swayed...he can go home as far as I am concerned. I am so tired of hearing about platforms...I would rather have a brainles twit that cared what everyone else thought than one who is so ate up with his own beliefs that he doesn't give a crap what anyone else thinks. But to answer the question of who in particular pisses me off...I'm not positive but I don't think the folks who are in power now are on my good side...lol.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 4:48:44 PM)

I have been a registered Democrat all my life, and I will vote Democrat come November.

peterK50 -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 5:12:46 PM)

I'd  like to see the religous right go away, hard to compromise with someone who's taking their orders straight from the almighty.

If deductions were taken away for political contributions then only the rich could run for office. Not good for representative g'ovt.

Don't sell yourself short Cuddles.  Chances are, your local party 'machine' will make sure you are voting for the Dems even after you die.

Now I'm wondering, who actually gets the vote when a dead Democrat uses a Republican manipulated voting device?

juliaoceania -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 5:26:26 PM)

Question: Was this thread conceived of to attack people for political affiliation? There is enough voting scandal to go around for both parties. At least Cuddles never attacks anyone else's political beliefs, she is a better model for whom to vote for than either you or I.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Who pisses you off on your side? (9/13/2006 5:27:38 PM)

Why is that selling myself short?
