Name him Harley! (Well what did you expect from me?)

Edited to add maybe you should change the middle name to Davidson. I mean who ever heard of a Harley Roger?

Hello.
I have never named a human being.  I am a pretty good dog, cat and horse namer, I think. Let's see...
OK.

1. Is your last name simple or complicated? Ethnic? One syllable? - The rhythem,  cadence, the flow counts.
2. Whatever the in the last 5 years-in-a-row manic hot fad names were -  trash -the- idea. Sorry, no offense. No Tiffany, Madison, Tyler, Brandon or whatever the moniker of the day. It'll date the kid and be an embarrassment someday.
So cute today -how stale tomorrow. Be kind...
3. Be moderately conservative, but not boring. Maybe a recognizable name, yet a name not so common?
4. Creative yet not so far out other human's have trouble deciding if this is another species or that they really, really need reading glasses.
5. Think carefully of how the name sounds as a whole. I once met a kid named Adam Baum.

These are "suggestions" are meant to be taken lightly and I pray no one was offended.

Hmmmn. I am thinking I am relieved not to have to name someone today!

Best of everything to the new family addition :)

I was sort of ocd when I named my kids.  Both have the same numbers of letters in their first name.  Same amount of syllables.  First name 2; middle name 3; middle names start with the same letter.  In all of my forward looking, I also gave them middle names that would (in my opinion) make nice first names, if they wanted to pass these on as first names to possible offspring (sometimes done in my family)

I agree.  No Colton, no Hunter, no Mason, no Colby, no first names that are supposed to be last names.  And I'm not a big fan of Jason or Todd, either.  The Colorado Rockies used to lead the league in guys named Todd.

Lee is a good one. Well I tend to think so. It was my son's, his father's, mine, both of my grandmother's. Damn it never mind..

What's the middle name and the first letter of the last name?

the middle name is Roger. after our late father.  last name begins with "E", 2 syllibles.  "er"-would be how it is pronounced.

Ok, for me, last names that start with a vowel do better with first names which end in a consonent. Because of the combination of middle and last name initials being "RE" I would avoid a first name which starts with a vowel unless you don't mind the kids initials being ARE, IRE, ORE etc. Also, with the double 'r' in Roger and last name with another r in it, I'd try to avoid a first name with an 'r' in at as well.

For a stronger sounding name, shorter tends to be better. Keith or Kent for example.

Personally, for me, with all the parameters in place (and this is ONLY what works for me) .. I'd probably name the kid Jackson (if sis wants it a bit more unusual, you can play with spelling like Jaxon, Jaxson or something like that) Roger XXer and call him Jack unless he was in trouble, then it would be his full name in my stern "mommie" voice. ;)

Let us know what she decides on!

Celeste

i chose family for my son's first and middle name......... my husband was very close with his maternal grandfather, Antonio Santori; i was close with my maternal grandfather, Raymond Arthur...... hence: Antonio Raymond.
Big King Arthur fan my husband is, our dog's name is Excalibiur!!
He wanted Guineviere for our daughter; to ol' school........ needed to add our grandmothers as well, so we went with: Genevieve Angela (his mother, maternal grandmother's names), Marie (my mother, his mother, and probably half his family since they are Itl!!)

Nevertheless, at the end of the day, i call my son "coffeebean", and my daughter "butterbean"........ m.y two "beings!!!"

i sure will. i was sorta hoping her hubby would pick a good name. or a list of 3. since he will throw a tantroom. ill tell you- some guys are such eye candy - but big BABIES when thye dont get their way.

the last name does make it hard...

im following the posts here- and im very concerned not to "jinx" the kid with a bad name.  so im especially taken those posts to heart.  im pretty much on the same page as my sister- tho she married her hubby- not me.

I do want to thank everyone for thier imput. [more is welcomed of course]  i will be sharing this trhead with her- I asked friends as well.

the next baby will be easier. but being this is the 1st- they are trying to be the perfect parents.

this has been very exiting for me.

-mom flew out the Chicago for the family baby shower. She had a great time. my other brother is getting married.....soon, so i hope it lines up. i can only get certain dates off to go out there. i made it clear- but soemtimes they dont hear me. Also- im not sure if i have a dog sitter.

my sister is 31. most her life she has worked with elderly/retarded. she has paid her dues. she wanted to have some finaicial security before starting a family. i seen her in action at work several times when she did not knwo i was there. she treats the residents very well.  so im very happy her day to shine is here. she deserves it!

:-)
