I come from a family of chefs, restauranteurs, consultants...foodies all. Growing up, I think I can recall MAYBE 10 dinners eaten at home. My brother and I learned percentages at age 4, calculating tips. So "where do we eat" is not a lightly undertaken question. What type of food? what are we in the mood for? what do we have time/money for? Do we want adventure, or comfort food? Overall favorite: Wishbone, in Chicago. I don't know that I've ever had a bad meal. Chain? I won't eat at most "midpriced" chain resturants. Put me down in a new city, give me a web link or a phone book, and I can usually find something better than that. But Olive Garden is amazingly consistent. If I'm in a place with real Italian food, I'll drive on by. But give me an Olive Garden over faked Italian, any time. And Ruby Tuesdays, for salad bar and burgers, is also reliable. There is hardly another chain resturant I'll willingly go into. Memorable restaurant meals? Mansion at Turtle Creek, Dallas $$$$$! but incredible Almost anything at Karl Ratsch's, Milwaukee Breakfast at the Loveless Cafe, Nashville Lady and Sons, Savannah Monell's, Nashville (Yes, I'm a sucker for Southern food) Tapas at Cafe Babareeba, Chicago - when the waitstaff took our then 4 year old, too precious daughter to the kitchen for an hour, made her a little princess outfit out of napkins and served her fried bananas. Commander's Palace, outdoors in early spring (New Orleans) Vetri, Philadelphia, this past June with my baby girl. Hatsuhana, my 25th birthday, first time I ever ate sushi, with my other baby girl The Palm, my 40th birthday with family and friends, split whole lobsters and perfect steak Dozens of meals at Pandls, in Bayside, WI, probably the best all around American resturant I've ever been to. oh man, I'm hungry now...Lets EAT! E.
