I have been known to eat three meals in five days there when I'm visiting the West Coast.
It's that good.
The food is exciting and fresh, the service is excellent and the atmosphere is super cool, dim lights, Santeria candles, blonde wood and lots of metal.
The "Two Hot Tamales" from NPR portrayed loosely in the SNL skit about the NPR radio hosts talking in double entendre about food (oh, my, those are nice salty balls...) are the owners.

(I wonder if the "BGSM" in the www address stands for Bondage, Good-eating, Sadism and Masochism?)

Oh yes this is a definite keeper, I almost went to work for Mary Sue and Susan in Vegas when they were opening at the Mandalay Bay

For lunch it has to be Panera..best soup and sandwich about..For dinner Outback of course!..who can turn down a fabulous steak!...Tempting

It depends on my mood and location-

Boston:

Thai- Bancock City Cuisine. Its one of THE best place for thai, and my personal favorites. I've seriously eaten there twice in one day before.

Indian- India Quality cheesy name but consistantly voted best by local papers and Zagot (sp?). They know us by name and deliver to us often because we basically live there. Across the river I LOOOOVE Indian Pavillian

Italian- Bertucci's, honestly not as good as the Olive Garden in their pasta dishes but irrationally good pizza and bread

American- Boston House of Pizza its the traditional greek place with the standard greek meets american food, I love it for their great grinders, fries and formerly their BLTs which I don't eat anymore as a vegetarian (I miss bacon most of all *le sigh*)

Mexican- unfortunately Boston has crap for Mexican but I like Picante across the river in Cambridge

Seafood- Legal Seafood, its a Boston institution, but not necessarily the best. For real seafood lovers (which I am not) the actual best is Seafood Shack which with drink, appitizer, entree, and tip is easily $50 a person

Missouri:

Mexican- El Vaquero *drools* I have seriously had dreams about going home and eating here. There are three mexican restaurants in my home town all owned and opperated by Mexican people and each one is to die for.

American- Ruby Tuesdays for their salad bar

Italian- The Olive Garden, very consistant and great zuppa

Fast food taste good going down ... and ten minutes after i finish ... it seems that it wants to 'come back up'. Gross.
i'm not impressed with fancy expensive restaurants.
i like a huge selection.
i don't care for fancy crap ... i like to feel like i'm eating a home cooked meal that someone else other than myself took the time to prepare.

#1 favorite place to eat: The Country Buffet.
#2: Cracker Barrel
#3: The Cafeteria at Ikea (Ikia?).

There was a nice Old Country Buffet when I lived in Lancaster, Pa.....I love Applebees

Anything that is NOT a chain restaurant. Applebee's, Outback, Olive Garden.. blah... No offense to anyone who likes them but I can't stand 'em. Give me a good independant restaurant any day.

42 degrees north in Portsmouth NH is incredible food... The Galley Hatch (also in Portsmouth)... Mike's Pastry in Boston's North End is the ONLY place I will eat tiramisu. *grin* Of course the North End has a TON of incredible Italian places, too. Portland ME has some of the best little cafe's I've ever found. I just love wandering around cities and finding the little holes in the wall that serve great food!

The Seattle Space Needle's restaurant was pretty darn good, and a little place in Farmington Hills, Michigan called Cafe Cortina.

I kinda said the same thing.....and shoulda mentioned that I don't want to offend anyone either.

The main thing I try to emphasize when I down the chain places, is that when you eat at ''Chef owned'' places, it's usually fresher ingredients instead of pre-packaged, pre-seasoned, and pre-portioned stuff you get at the chains.

Many of the places in Portland I like to eat at, have their own little sustainable spice and vegetable gardens right on the premises - So your getting fresh, organically grown spices instead of something that's been mashed/ground up, with preservatives and sitting in a jar for eons.

The other thing I like about chef-owned is the money stays local instead of going into corporate coffers.

PS - It always gives me great pleasure to take someone whose always eaten at the chains and introduce them to fresh ingredient /chef owned, with local art hangn’ on the walls - They're changed forever.

Chinatown in NYC, maybe a Thai or Vietnamese restaurant, then cross Canal Street into Little Italy for dessert.
