I hate to see anyone leave the site ever. Still, if Inside and cyn decide to leave, that is their choice. I am only posting on this because a comment said bothers me.

Inside said:

Not only have I stated many times you can reach any moderator on the other side at their name, I wrote to him less than 3 weeks ago on another issue.

I hate censorship, but I do believe in following the rules. When I pull posts that are clear ads, I do not waste my time to send a letter every time, as I don't have enough time to waste. When I pull a discussion post though, I do try to do that. I spoke to Inside this month, so I do know he was aware of how to get a hold of Moderator if that was what he was looking to do.

What I have noticed on this site as well others
is, there are some people who may have been
at the site for a long time and have been in the lifestyle
for X amount of years...that somehow start believing
only their opinons are Valid, or they begin to be in some
Delusion in thinking "They" Run the Site and/or have
Superiority over other members. That they can do No Wrong.
They stick up for each other, and get very pissed if they push
the limits and get busted. Then think the whole place is gonna
fall apart as they stomp their feet and leave.

Like they say...Don't let the door hit ya.....

I think it's too bad that some people feel they have to leave the site over posts on a message board. Although I must admit that I find it ironic that the issue was censorship, when I have been feeling for several weeks that many of the replys to topics and/or questions on the boards were basically censoring what should be discussed, what should not, for what length of time, and when it should be dropped completely.

This is the third "I'm leaving" thread in the past few days. First nella had hers because of hurt felings, and the responses tended to be of the group hug variety.

Then BlackTallFullfig had a satire on that for getting a little luv, and that also seemed to turn into a communal fun fest.

So when I first saw Inside's post I was wondering if it would get a similar response. It is very interesting that the responses here are not particularly sympathetic. I guess giving ultimatums to the mods over pulling threads that are essentially bad jokes and just trivial is not the best way to make folks think they'll miss you.

I ddidn't go into a tirade. . .not my style. But in the final analysis, the "community" decided to rally behind the "victim of oppression" and the "victim" admitted to being wrong.

Sure, I haven't be overtly censored. . .but I think the censorship is more of an insidious deal where the "community" reinforces what is "good" by their reactions/posts. So I totally can relate to Jeffrey and Carolyn. I may not have agreed with all of his posts, but I apreciated the fact that it got to the crux of the matter instead of taking a circuitous trip around the mulberry orchard to try to make a point. If these types of posts are discouraged by the "community-at-large". . .then I really don't have a place here because that is my posting style as well.

Before anyone thinks that this is a "pity party" post. . .it is not. I do respect the fact that this is a privately held web site and the owner has the right to run it as she sees fit. (And it is a great web site I might add.) And also, ultimately, the dynamics of any community is in the hands of the "majority". . . .and I think the majority has spoken. I can respect that.

Oh damnit. Please don't dial back- you're one of my favorite voices in this place.

I think that what we are seeing lately is a influx of newpeople (for whatever reasons), and as usual, the loudest ones are the socially inept. There are right now a whole bunch of lurkers, reading the boards, learning the tone of the common discourse, getting an idea of the personalitys, and biding their time till their first post.

And this is the winter of our discontnent. It seems like the world world has gone a little wrong- everyone is cranky and blue. I am sleeping more, and drinking too much, being moody enough that I notice it in myself.

Please don't go away. Take some time off, do what's right for you, but remeber that you are valued here.

I agree with Topcat. You know we may not always know exactly why the Mod's make the decisions they do. However we have to put trust in them.
I know the offender in this case was acting erratic for weeks. The reason why I happen to know this is because he made a remark to me in a thread which made me notice him.
Started reading posts. Many were pointed and not in a good way.

I have no idea how long it was going on. I have no idea how many times the mod's intervened. I only know what I personally witnessed.
Anyway the point I am trying to make is. We don't see all that happens. We have our own lives. Sometimes we don't read the board in its entirety. We miss posts. Well, the Mod's miss no posts. When someone is acting out of line should they not have the power to smack their hand without an uprising?
If you have 1000 people and 50 are acting up. How do you protect the other 950 people?

The board needs to be a place where people can come and exchange ideas without the fear of persecution. Has it been lately?

If they have'nt talked to you I'd bet they don't have an issue with you....hmmm

It is too bad, but not because of the reason left. If he is a man of strong principles, and he feels it was wrong (as do I) that his post was pulled, than he's right to make the choice to leave.
He basically told people to grow up, understand the world doesn't revolve around any particular relationship, and don't take differing opinions so personally...
It's true that folks who have been here/in lifestyle longer, feel they have more of a solid word (isn't that true in everything)?

He did note in his post that some folks would be happy to see him go, as is evident in the replies here... What I don't understand is that for folks who've been in the lifestyle, why so many are averse to taking a spanking once in a while in the form of "I disagree with your statement, this is what I think."

What is worse some in glass houses who do what INSIDEYOURMIND did by way of imposing their views/being sarcastic/being contrary are quick to throw stones his way.

I really do wish we were all open-minded enough to accept/learn from one another, and I say this with full understanding that I'm new to all of this and have little to contribute by way of BDSM lifestyle... I also say this even though I didn't agree with his posts at times. M

P.S. This is not necessarily a reply for Harmony, her post got me thinking

i do fully agree with Your words BlkTallFullfig - far beyond the point thats a judgement about other views and opinions.

like You i am new/ novice to the lifestyle of BDSM - but and thats my personal view - i see so far a way in being free - the freedom at least to express myself without judgement, blame or offend.

for me that is based on tolerance and acceptance - these two tools are able to let the world become a harmony and being peacefull (i know we far from that point and it should be included in Vanilla like BDSM too - smile).

it is far beyond the point do i have to agree?
to agree or even to understand is not necessary in being tolerant and to accept.

wouldn't it be easier and with much more peace we would sometimes reflect about that?

The thread in debate here was against TOS and forum guidelines. It was removed just like the thousands that came before it as will the thousands after it.

I was sent an email demanding me to take action, I forwarded the situation to another Moderator so that it could be handled without the appearance of prejudice. It's that simple.

I had only one previous conversation with the op, and it was dated 1/20/05 and reads as follows:

Hi Jules,

I don't think I agree with this comment. But then again, I actually HOPE it is true. ::Shudders:: I would rather than honest than *PC* any day. Hell, there is NOTHING *PC* on these boards. It is like anywhere else in the real world. People have varying opinions, and some are more thin skinned than others. They believe that only they can be right, and take any opposing view is a personal attack.

This issue isn't even that. It's basic following rules. I have had posts pulled, and there have been absolutely nothing against TOS in *my* posts. But, the string itself was boarderline and one of the moderators chose to take it off.

*PC* sucks. It is no longer *PC* to use the words master/slave as a computer term. How stupid is that? It is not *PC* to be a dominant, submissive, and certainly not to call someone a slave.

Being blunt is a totally different topic. I have had some heat when I am blunt, but, I strive to keep my *blunt* speech adult, and if those who I am opposing are unable to do the same, I just put them on the list of those I don't read/respond to. I am sure I am on that list for others, but if anything I say makes anyone think, I still consider it worth it...

My point here was not that people should not be able to express opinions and in fact, I truly enjoy an actual debate of ideas and points of view, which is why I started reading these forums on a regular basis. The opinions were varied, well stated, and intelligent responses expressing opinions. My feeling that it was beginning to feel as if censorship was going on was not because of the opinions expressed regarding a topic or question or viewpoint coming up on a board -- but the fact that it seemed to be that what was being discussed was whether the topic should have been posted at all or whether that topic should be discussed. I think there's a difference between saying -- I don't agree with what you have to say and I don't agree with your right to open a topic for discussion.

Jules, I would like to add my voice to those who hope you continue to post. I have enjoyed reading your posts very much and at least in my personal opinion, feel you were addressing the topic at hand and not the poster or an individual (even though I realize some posters may have taken it that way, but it was not the way I happened to read it), which is exactly the point. People can express their opinion -- even in a rather frank manner -- without attacking the person's right to ask a question or ask for input in the first place.

I don't see how a forum is going to remain active and attract new people to post opinions and ideas if it appears that by opening a new topic you are painting a bullseye on yourself NOT for your personal viewpoint, but just for asking the question in the first place.
