ORIGINAL: TreSwank The other day, while perusing through a volume of Hunter S. Thompson's collected gonzo jounalism in a downtown New London bookstore, I was accosted by a slovenly dressed, acne-faced 20-something, holding a "manga" graphic novel that he must have picked up in the "Read This If You're A Douchebag" section of Sarge's. Before I had a chance to flee, the young man had started to prattle on about "Yoshito Hiramitsu" something or another, and a quaint-looking power sword that he's seen in one of those retarded anime cartoons. I HATE ANIME. I HATE SCIENCE FICTION. I HATE RENAISSANCE FESTIVALS. I HATE WICCA. That being said, some might reply with a curt "Well...........why don't you just ignore those people You don't have to like the same things that they do." My answer would have to be NO. It's more fun to talk shit and achieve some kind of catharsis, than to sit and be subject to all sorts of assholery. If THEY don't like what I say, THEY can ignore me. It's a two edged sword. Collectively, Wicca, sci-fi, anime, renaissance-festivals, and role-playing games seem to be a devil's playground for those socially inept high school rejects who have bonded together with shared interests, in an attempt to spread the effects of dorkiness throughout the world - and, God, I hate all of these things for giving these people another flimsy crutch..........an alternative to the revolver. It's just plain amazing how a sad, pathetic clown of a human being, can, all of a sudden, become an elitist when he/she joins a larger whole, whether it be under the guise of "Goddess" worship, or the love of idealized middle-age feudalism. Just like the "BDSM community" gives weirdos a transgressive sense of "cool", these groups reach down and pluck up the refuse of society - coddling them like the lost children that they really are. Who else is with me on this? Sincerely, A BDSM "weirdo". Post Scriptum: Did I forget to mention that Star Trek really bites the big one? I hate Star Trek so much that it makes me want to smash my computer sometimes. I also hate goths, emo, hip-hop, country music, people who put their phone on "Speaker" mode in public, and fitted ballcaps with flat rims, that some bruthas wear cocked to the side. I know the original intent of your post was to be humorous and slightly self-depreciating. And I do understand and appreciate the humor. But really. You need to sit back and think before you speak. The bullies at Columbine thought THEY were being funny too. That young man who came up to you in the bookstore? Yes, he was probably annoying, but he was also desperately seeking someone to talk to, to pay attention to him for even a moment. Does it REALLY hurt you THAT much to give a fellow human who SO wants to connect with you a few moments of your time? Of course you have your freedom of speech, but consider this. The difference between them and you is they are not using theirs to hurt anyone.
