I'll point out that I don't think a majority of the posters who made positive comments with regard to Wal-Mart are stupid, evil or greedy ; I just think they're a little short sighted and less adept to taking a well-rounded look at all the long term political / socio-economic ramifications a corporation like Wal-mart brings to the table.

On the other hand.....and I won't mention any names, there are a couple of folks out there that really believe that these corporations are out in the forefront, and regardless of what a few malcontent individuals think....these corporations really do know what's best for the populace as a whole.

Just an opinion of course [;)]

LOL.  i never understood why some women freak about that.  but there are some of us that don't call to see what the others are wearing, don't go the the ladies room in pairs, and don't run to hide if we see our outfits on another.  i might have missed the full-girl gene?

oh, and i shop at wal-mart.  the sams choice creamer beats the prices i can get at the commissary.. 5 dz eggs for $3.74 while the commissary is asking 2.89 for ONE dz.

i buy my panties there,  how long do you want them to last anyway?  i'd rather replace often and have that new panties feeling.
socks..  i can't find the ones with the pink toes and heels 3 for 5 bucks anyplace else.
since i'm not southern, and can't fry chicken for beans, i buy that there too..  8 pieces for about 4.25 feed hubby and son much better than KFC.

we have 6 super stores in a 30 mile radius here, a distribution center, 2 Sams clubs, and putting up a Sams Club distribution center here too, i think everyone who doesn't work on post works for wal-mart.  i'd LOVE to work in their logistics dept, but i can't get on, the stacks of applicants are just too high.

i will say that to get good wages, one has to leave the Clarksville area and drive to Nashville..  but the wage problem here isn't Wal-Marts fault.  Our city council discouraged one new employer here from starting wages at over 10 per hour, they suggested under 8 per hour, because "that would cause a wage drain on the other employers in the area".  Course, there is nothing saying Wally wasn't the "other employers" referred to.

I had no idea Wal-Mart treated their employess this way, until I came across this article.  I have never worked at Wal-Mart, so I didnt even realize.

Ack!  I really didn't mean my above post in a mean way.  I was tired and didn't realize it was coming out so poorly!  I'm sorry!  It wasn't meant as an attack on you not knowing about Wal-Mart's inner workings.  My apologies.  I'm chalking it up to having been up all night with the unmentionable.  It was 5:30 in the morning when I wrote that.  LOL.

Lordandmaster -> shirts redux (10/26/2006 7:22:46 AM)

You know, I was thinking, as I slipped into my 100% cotton Polo shirt (plackets and all) for a thing in New York this morning: "I better watch out: they might not consider this a valid shirt, because I bought it on close-out at Sam's Club for something like $11."

Then I calmed myself with the recognition that they couldn't tell how much I paid for it if I removed the price tag.

Moderator, please truncate as you require if necessary

Please pardon the rant, but I find it difficult to sympathize much with the POOR, BADLY TREATED American worker or consumer after having experienced the reality of Asian life.

For those who find it so convenient to bitch about how US department stores treat their employees (Wal-Mart in particular), read what goes on in the rest of the world, particularly in Asia. I’m sure China is much worse! I’ve lived in Asia for a total of 9 years and could write a book on how people live here, how women are treated here, how they’re paid, etc. In comparison, American workers and all other advanced nations live and are treated like Gods. Of course there is not a direct comparison to wages, but there is to benefits. Treatment… what do you think a woman in Asia does if her boss suggests some unpleasant activity? No one will admit it, but it’s an everyday fact of life. I’ve had maids in several countries in Asia, when I was single; they expected to be personal maids without anyone asking, any hesitation or any quibbling… fact of life.

Well, the cheapness of labour in the east is the reason cheap goods are on sale in the west and the reason corporations can suppress wages and conditions here.

It is raw uncontroled capitalism at work, exploiting the poor in one area to exploit the poor in another area and profiteer out of both of them.
