(oh, and Caitlyn what makes you think they're not making their own?)

Because you can't exactly hide a fleet carrier program? [;)][;)]

meatcleaver -> RE: If it comes to a shooting war..with China (10/17/2006 8:47:01 AM)

Why would China want a fleet of carriers anyway? They have never shown that much aggression to other countires and countries want to do business with them. On that score, China has a better reputation than the US around the world.

caitlyn -> RE: If it comes to a shooting war..with China (10/17/2006 8:50:07 AM)

I didn't say they would want one. I didn't say they were a threat.

I also didn't say that the United States was not a threat to them. The United States is probably a serious threat to everyone.

I wasn't having a pop at you. I should have replied to Wyrd Rich rather than used quick reply.

caitlyn -> RE: If it comes to a shooting war..with China (10/17/2006 9:01:27 AM)

Funny, I didn't see him mention a fleet carrier program. [;)][;)]

It's been a long day. Maybe he'll mention one now and dig me out of the shit.[sm=whiteflag.gif]

I have to be honest that article to me was an excercise in theoretical thinking with no common sense.

China would never destroy Taiwan. That is killing their own people and China despite the fear mongers out there is not going to destroy something like that just because on principal. Taiwan is a zero threat to China. It is all about reclaiming their property/pride and respect thing. It is not about global expansion. Also in the end the rest of the world will back down from China because Taiwan is just not that impotant to them.

No country of any size like China or the U.S. is going to invade/fight another country of large size directly and with conventional weapons ever again. Look at all modern history of larger countries invading smaller ones and see the mess and costs that happen. Now multiply it exponentially and no way no how does that happen.

The world is not black and white. America and other democracies are not all good and sugar and spice and countries like China are not all evil with world destruction and domination on their minds. Most of us would all agree that there are many things wrong with China in some moral areas but if you think all the citizens live in fear and oppression you simply have it wrong. What is happening to China right now is very simple. The current leaders grew up and learned in a global world. Many have been educated and/or traveled extensively and when they came into power it is as simple as them wanting what other have and because of the population, size and natural resources their task is much easier done then in other countries. There just not any deep dark sinister plan here.

The only country that China hates with any ferver is Japan. China is just like any other country like the U.S., Great Britain, Germany and all others, it sees countries now in dollar signs. As long as we are customers, we are friends and welcomed. China growth in terms of power and threat is that they wanted to stop being treated as the little brother with no power or say and to be treated as equals on the world stage.

Where America's money goes is up to us and what we do and not other countries nefarious plans.

CrappyDom -> RE: If it comes to a shooting war..with China (10/17/2006 11:52:36 AM)

China's weapon of choice has always been shrewed long term diplomacy, something that is quite often FAR more effective than the biggest army.

China isn't going to waste money on a blue water navy, they know they could never catch up to us nor do they want to spend that much money.

Instead they will make agreements with Iran, build pipelines, and support countries like Venezuala who are a thorn in our side.

Anyone who thinks the nation willing to gun down people in the streets doesn't play hardball doesn't see the backgame that China is playing.

The only thing Bush isn't dumb enough to attempt is any sort of direct attack on China and he is too cowardly to attempt an indirect one.  I LOVE the fact that when China was giving intelligence to the Serbs, Clinton "accidentally" bombed their embassy, frigging brilliant bit of work.   The Chinese could publicly act all indignant but privately, they got the message and the flow of intel to Serbia stopped.

I think the correct term for that is ''War by proxy'' [;)]

When you look at the interference throughout modern Iran's history by the west, Iran must welcome a country like China that just wants to buy its oil, instead of trying to overthrow its government to get oil on the cheap. What China offers many countries with oil is a competitive price and no internal interference. The Chinese must be like a breath of fresh air to these countries after such exploitation by the west.

Uh huh.

Yeah..and Chairman MAO didn't murder millions of people because of disagreeing with his "peoples revolution"....or lock them in
work camps.

Even the PRESENT Chinese government is MURDERING TIBETANS for their beliefs and letting companies
treat their employees like slaves working 12 to 14 hour days at 20 cents an hour.

They have a "reputation" alright.

It seems America only worries about the human rights of others when it coincides with their interests. There is nothing wrong with that but let's at least be honest about it. The real danger China poses to America is economic and replacing America as the world's next superpower. It is not in China's interests to cause conflict, however, it might be in the US's.

He's gonna wish he never went down my street.

Nothing like making brave threats to deal with an issue that will never happen.

Bush is doing the heavy lifting on China's plan to destroy the US, they don't need to do anything.  It would be hard to argue which of America's enemies Bush has done more to help, China, Al Queda, or Iran.

has been the globalists and politicians agenda all along.

I'll be ready.

Willyou?

Or will you wait for the GUBIN'ENT to PRO_tect you?

Like they did on 9-11 when NORAD stood down for the first time since WWII.

By "Accident" of course.

But nah,China is still using "cold war technology"..right?

http://www.softwar.net/plaaf.html

OH!!!! I forgot!!! Saddam..Bin laden and IRAN are the "threats"..never mind.

I SAY.....once a RED..always a RED. (Thanks Grandpa.)

I've got to agree on this and its a pity not enough people see that. Clinton was far more effective on the world stage than Bush and I don't recall him ever trying to rally support by spreading paranoia. Even now when Clinton speaks people outside the USA tend to listen to what he says with an open mind, when Bush speaks people listen in despair. Yet you look at Clinton's actions and he wasn't a softy but he was rational, even if you didn't agree with him you could see reason in what he was doing. With Bush, no one knows what's going on in his head and ones instinctive reaction is to oppose him. It seems to me the biggest threat to American interests is conservative paranoia because it makes the world have a paranoid reaction to America.

sissifytoserve -> RE: If it comes to a shooting war..with China (10/18/2006 4:27:34 AM)

This has NOTHING to do with Bush.

Bush will be out of Office in less than 2 years.

It has everything to do with Bush while he is in power, him and his neocon friends seem to be the ones feeding the paranoia in America. The rest of the world don't seem to see a problem with China but then the rest of the world aren't superpowers threatened to be unseated as an unrivaled power, they have to work with whichever superpower is in place. That used to be the USA and the USSR, now it is just the USA, maybe tomorrow it will be China and the USA. For the rest of the world, nothing would have changed, just different powers causing tensions.
