China IS a threat on the world stage but to brag you are going to shoot up an APC in your front yard is junior high school grandstanding, it ain't gonna happen.

Sissy, you need to look up "kneejerk reaction" because you clearly haven't been following who is who here so before you launch into some pathetic tirade, you might want to try getting educated first.

The rest of the world don't seem to see a problem with China but then the rest of the world aren't superpowers threatened to be unseated as an unrivaled power, they have to work with whichever superpower is in place.

Not that I want to throw this wonderful discussion off pace.... But how can the world’s largest ''debtor'' nation realistically be considered the lone super power?

Wouldn’t it be fair to say that part of the criterion for such a power, would be that it had to remain solvent? Do you think it's possible the good folks down the road in Bentonville might loan us a few more bucks? [8|]

Seen "Red Dawn" one too many times I suspect.

More likely scenario is that they would be Chinese mercenaries hired by the crypto fascist neo-cons, when they can't get their own troops to fire on civilians, maybe they'll manage to get them killed first. Chinese mercs have been employed for some time now to commit genocide in Africa on behalf of the oil companies when they don't want to pay royalties to "squatters".

Fighting back would be "treason" of course, this is the New World Order.

Same old idiots who want to run it though.

"Communist Chinese TORTURE and MURDER of Tibet's indigenous people....a "breath of fresh air"....provided by commies."

....uh huh...because after all, the US is a model of how to treat an indigenous people fairly isn't it..........isn't there some aphorism about removing the planks from your own eye before going after other people's optical splinters?

Oh come now, that's just America bashing - just because we've seeded Iraq with enough depleted uranium to guarantee the children of Iraq a steady supply of tumors for the next, oh... Ten Thousand years, doesn't mean we're the same as those evil bastards.

Yep UR. Its amazing how wishful thinking and the thought of how castastrophic the world economy would be if the US house of cards collapsed, which is about all that is keeping the house of cards up.

And Bush has two more years. You're going to need all the luck you can get UR.

Byzantine and European history, clearly answers this question. Borrowing money from people that are not able to force collection, is very smart. Loaning money to someone you don't have the ability to collect from, is very stupid.

I dislike about 90% of what the United States government is doing right now, but our supposed 'debt' to foreign countries, fits neatly in the 10%.

.......Caitlyn......please look up the meanings of the word 'honour' and the phrase 'moral high ground'........additionally, what political hue is characterised by the phrase 'might makes right'.............. Here's a clue......it is often symbolised by a bundle of twigs all bound up, which in Roman was called 'fasces'.

Caityln,

History is a great lens through which to view history but it isn't a perfect lens as you prove all too often.

In ancient times, they didn't have polls, they had kings who could operate with far greater latitude than the US president or even the US government.

Secondly, countries used to be largely self sufficient and imported only luxury goods.  The US is hardly self sufficient we need money from exports and many of the goods we import are of vital importance like uhm OIL?

This country has been told by both Republicans and Democrats that hard choices aren't necessary, that we can have guns and butter.  Dealing with the debt, even if we decide to fuck China is going to be brutal with rationing worse than we saw in WWII and the public isn't going to like it.  It could have been done after 9/11 but in order to shock the public into paying attention again we are going to need something brutal to happen and the problem with markets is they tend to panic...

Sorry but this just ain't like Europe or Rome...

Uranium has a half life which means it is mostly spent in under 25 years.

Now plutonium is 10,000 years and a teaspoon full will kill ever man, woman, and child in Washington if you put it in the Potomac.

Which is not to say I agree with the US irradiating the indigenous peoples of Iraq, I just wanted to set the record straight.

I personally wonder how all those troops we have stationed over there feel about living in a radiated blast zone.

I suspect Monkeyboy and Shotgun dont care.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.
