ORIGINAL: Kaledorus A few years ago in Salt Lake City, Utah an illegal alien, Mexican female, aged 15 at the time, was pushed up on the kidney donation list despite being here illegally. "Pushed up on the list" or was deemed the best recipient for the donated organ? Do you have a copy of "the list"? Who deemed the people "ahead of her" on the list to be as-good matches as she was? Does it not make sense that a (young, otherwise healthy) person who will benefit from the organ transplant for forty years is going to get an organ before someone who has a bunch of comorbidities and will only live another ten years? Can you accept that this might have been what happened as opposed to "they let her have the kidney first because she's Mexican"? Reminds me of the time I was explaining to a friend of mine (An Indian immigrant, by the way, who worked as an independent contractor in the IT field, yes, he worked for himself.) how important it was to me to have documentation of my son's Cuban heritage. I told him that I wanted it to be clear that he was part Cuban in case one day there was some sort of benefit he could enjoy because of his heritage. My friend laughed out loud and said "And under what bizarre set of political circumstances do you ever imagine that happening?" Generally speaking, people with brown skin don't get "escorted to the front of the line" in this culture. Im an organ donor. As far as I can recall I was not presented with the option of choosing the race/religion/creed/nationality of the person who will hopefully benefit from my organs after I die. Wasnt it David Crosby who, by dint of his stardom, was catapulted over dozens of other people for a new liver because his life of intemperate debauchery had destroyed the one he was born with? The point about an illegal immigrant jumping the line seems like a ridiculously obtuse talking point by some ignorant twit who works as a talk radio talking head. Reminds me of the years of Rush Limbaugh raving about drug addicts and the need for incarceration of all of them and then being found to be one. Im still laughing about that one. Sinergy
